2. JOB PURPOSE

To assess, plan, coordinate and supervise the implementation of structural solutions for Abu Dhabi's Historic Environment

3. ACCOUNTABILITIES

Key Accountabilities

Conservation Operations Assess structural behaviour of Abu Dhabi's Historic Environment (vernacular historic buildings, archaeological sites, structures, modern heritage) and associated structures ( shelters, site buttresses, buildings nearby) through field investigation, site inspection and monitoring, measurements, calculations and modeling. Analyze through quantitative and/or qualitative data collection and modelling the structural behaviour of cultural heritage resources from single structural elements to structural systems. Evaluate and anticipate any future threats that can affect the structural stability and performance cultural heritage sites and diagnose pathologies and inherent, external, and anthropomorphic causes of deterioration. Design creative strengthening, retrofitting and repair solutions that respect the nature of the built heritage using both traditional and modern methods observing best practice as defined in international heritage charters and conventions by choosing the appropriate construction materials and techniques Develop and manage a schedule for the structural repairs or improvements. Supervise the implementation of structural repairs or improvements and ensure all works carried out are accurately documented, archived and made available for research and historical record keeping. Develop regimens and processes to monitor structural issues as part of the overall monitoring plan for the conservation of the built heritage, collect and analyze structural monitoring data. Build capacity of work force in implement structural repairs when possible Prepare presentations, reports and articles that are related to conducted work. Evaluate structural assessments and designs submitted by external parties as part of DCT projects or as part of development review and permitting approvals. Evaluate structural repairs and site works implement by external consultants. Assist in field supervision of conservation site works, when required.

Policies, Processes and Procedures Lead in the development of DCT Conservation Sections structural assessment review processes, procedures and technical requirements for vernacular historic buildings, archaeological sites, structures, modern heritage in line with AD Government stakeholders' procedures and systems. Identify, propose and develop the necessary policies, standards and structural solution guidelines for existing and future threats that may affect the structural stability and performance cultural heritage assets. Participate and support in the implementation of DCT's Conservation section policies, processes and procedures technically and operationally and ensure adherence, so that all relevant requirements are fulfilled and aligned with the operations. Follow all Conservation section policies, processes, procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner. Participate, contribute, assist or take the lead in developing policies, guidelines, standards and procedures for the care, protection, conservation, and management of Abu Dhabi's historic environment that abide by international standards and principles.

Collaboration Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on matters related to Conservation - Historic Buildings unit in order to facilitate flow of information and also to build awareness in those areas.

Day-to-Day Operations Supervise the site works related on structural improvements. Monitor the structural status of sites under the monitoring plan. Supervise, assist, monitor workforce, logistics, workshops and site mobilizations. Report on a regular basis to the Conservation - Historic Buildings Unit Head on operational activities, challenges, hurdles and methods of resolution or mitigation etc. as required to keep the Line Manager informed and updated about the unit's activities. Prepares progress and status reports by analyzing and summarizing the information and works of assigned projects. Manage information produced to document work carried out. Review and provide technical recommendations to structural reports submitted to DCT Conservation Section.

EHS (Environment, Health and Safety) Ensure all relevant environment, health and safety policies, procedures and controls are adhered to so that employee safety, legislative compliance, and a responsible environmental attitude can be guaranteed. Comply with all relevant EHS guidelines, policies and procedures, report incidents and hazards on a timely manner, and reduce consumption of natural resources to support in protecting the environment and ensure a healthy and safe work environment.

Change Management Support the creation of culture susceptible to change management through a 'hands-on' and 'can-do' approach to DCT's new business opportunities, participating in the development of new initiatives, meeting planned targets, and demonstrating preferred high-performance behaviors.

5. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, COMPETENCIES

Qualification (e.g. Academic Qualification, Certifications, Licenses)

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering or equivalent. Master's degree in Structural engineering/Architecture/Archaeology/ Historic Preservation (Heritage Conservation) or equivalent. (but as addition to the Bachelor degree in Civil/Structural engineering) Training in traditional earthen architecture, and/or equivalent in work experience preferred Experience in documentation and recording, materials testing, assessment and intervention design for heritage sites Knowledge of the following: DIANA finite element analysis program (or comparable), AutoCAD, Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Indesign etc.), Microsoft suite (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, etc. Language competency in English as well Arabic and/or Urdu/Hindi

Experience

For Bachelor Degree Holders: 3 to 5 years of work experience in structural engineering with a minimum of 2 years of experience on heritage conservation projects. OR For Post Graduate Holders: 2 to 3 years of work experience in structural engineering with a minimum of 2 years of experience on heritage conservation projects.
