Senior Planning Engineer - Microtunneling - AECOM - Dubai, UAE
Position Overview
The Senior Planning Engineer - Microtunneling plays a critical role in planning, monitoring, and controlling complex underground construction supervision projects in Dubai. This role is responsible for developing and managing detailed project schedules, tracking progress, analyzing delays, and supporting timely delivery of microtunneling works in dense urban environments. The position works closely with supervision teams, contractors, and clients to ensure project milestones are achieved and risks are proactively managed.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and update detailed project schedules using Primavera P6 or equivalent planning tools covering design, procurement, and construction stages
• Review contractor baseline programmes to ensure compliance with contract requirements, sequencing logic, and resource allocation
• Monitor construction progress for microtunneling activities, identify variances, and recommend corrective and recovery actions
• Coordinate with the Resident Engineer and supervision teams to verify site progress and ensure accurate schedule updates
• Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports highlighting milestones, delays, risks, and mitigation measures
• Review and assess Extension of Time claims, delay analyses, and revised programmes in line with contractual procedures
• Establish progress measurement systems, KPIs, and performance indicators for effective project control
• Conduct trend analysis and scenario planning to evaluate the impact of changes and propose mitigation strategies
• Support preparation of cash flow forecasts, manpower histograms, and resource projections
• Coordinate planning inputs with cost control, engineering, procurement, and construction teams
• Participate in progress and coordination meetings, presenting schedule status and recovery plans to stakeholders
• Support project risk identification and mitigation planning
• Ensure compliance with AECOM project management and controls procedures
• Mentor junior planners and engineers in planning, scheduling, and reporting best practices

Ideal Profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
• Minimum 15 years of experience in construction planning, with strong expertise in microtunneling projects
• Advanced knowledge of microtunneling techniques, equipment, and underground construction methodologies
• High proficiency in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, progress measurement, and delay analysis
• Experience with UAE infrastructure projects and international construction standards
• Professional Engineering license or equivalent certification preferred
• PMP certification is an advantage
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities in a multicultural project environment
• Ability to perform under pressure and manage complex schedules with tight deadlines
