POSITION SUMMARY
The Sr. Managing Counsel will support the CEMEA Legal team on a broad range of legal and regulatory matters in the region. In, particular the Sr. Managing Counsel will be a lead lawyer for Visa Localization and New Payment Flows projects in the region, as well as lead legal support to Governmental Engagement team on their projects and initiatives. The Sr. Managing Counsel will report to the Head of Legal, CEMEA, based in Dubai. Accordingly, a flexible, innovative mindset is required combined with strong legal skills, high levels of commercial acumen and risk judgement balanced with an ethical and practicable ability to deal with a complex set of legal and business issues at a senior leadership level. LOCATION The position is based in the Visa offices in Dubai. Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate strong business acumen and pragmatism when working with the management team to development and enhance Visa’s client partnerships, and also to be seen as pro-business and easy to work with.
  • Provide strategic and business-focused advice to business lines and management on wide range of legal and regulatory matters and proposed business initiatives in CEMEA markets. This needs to be achieved while operating within the challenges posed by different regulatory environment and cultural expectations in CEMEA markets.
  • Monitoring regulatory developments and advising on impact thereof on Visa and Visa partners in the region. Own regulatory support and evaluation of how shifts in regulatory landscapes may impact Visa and its partners
  • Draft, negotiate, and review a broad range of commercial contracts and other legally binding documents. This also includes development of template/standard documents or adapting U.S. documents to local requirements.
  • Manage various internal processes related to new business initiatives and projects in the areas of responsibilities
  • Where required, coordinate and supervise outside counsel for timeliness, cost-effectiveness, and excellence of service and work product
  • Be a trusted and reliable member and partner of the CEMEA Legal team, by collaborating with team mates across the region to ensure consistently high standards of the team. A strong “team player” mentality is required
  • Make a direct and positive contribution to Visa's value equation that is clear, prompt, and commercially relevant within the framework of a detailed understanding of the company's business operations and its strategies.

Qualifications

  • Law degree and qualification which allows for in house practice in the applicable jurisdiction
  • 12+ years of commercial legal experience in private practice and/or in-house with multinationals or reputable global legal firm; experience in the payments industry, and/or provision of regulatory advice.
  • International experience required and a sound knowledge of common law principles preferred.
  • Excellent legal analytical skills with the ability to integrate legal advice and business knowledge, while providing balanced advice regarding risks and benefits.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic approaches to resolution of complex or sensitive legal issues.
  • First class written and verbal communication skills, including ability to negotiate agreements in English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to build strong working relationships with internal clients at all levels of management and work on cross functional teams over multiple geographical locations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Fluent Russian speaker preferred
  • Transactional background (corporate, commercial arrangements) with significant experience drafting and negotiating a wide array of commercial, joint ventures and partnership agreements
  • Some limited travel may be required

This is an on-site position. An on-site position must be consistently performed at an assigned Visa office location and require daily commute to the office location.
