Skills and Competencies:
Supervising the installation of electrical systems. Ensuring that wiring, lighting, and other electrical components are installed correctly and safely.
Analyse project plans, drawings, and specifications to determine the scope of electrical work and potential costs.
Generate detailed cost estimates for electrical work, including labour, materials, equipment, overhead, and any other associated costs.
Determine the pricing of materials, labour, and subcontractors, factoring in current market rates and project-specific needs.
Estimate costs for different electrical systems such as lighting, power distribution, wiring, fire alarms, data systems, and more.
Work closely with electrical engineers, project managers, and other relevant stakeholders to understand project requirements and any potential challenges.
Obtain quotes from subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors for materials, products, and services.
Provide suggestions on how to reduce costs while maintaining quality and meeting project specifications (value engineering).
Compile and prepare electrical bids for projects, ensuring that all requirements are addressed accurately and competitively.
Identify and assess any risks associated with the electrical scope of work, including delays, labour shortages, or supply chain issues.
Create and present bid proposals that highlight all necessary electrical systems, schedules, costs, and specifications.
Visit construction sites to assess existing conditions, verify measurements, and gather information that will affect electrical estimates.
Spot any on-site conditions that may affect the cost or complexity of electrical installation, such as limited access or space constraints.
Assist project managers in tracking actual costs against the estimated costs to ensure projects stay within budget.
If there are significant changes in the scope or unexpected issues arise during the project, provide updated cost estimates to keep the project on track.
Document all estimates, assumptions, and methodologies used in preparing bids and estimates.
Keep detailed records of all tenders, bids, supplier quotes, and other relevant documents for future reference.
Supervise and mentor junior estimators, providing guidance and oversight on electrical estimation processes and best practices.
Review and approve estimates prepared by junior estimators to ensure accuracy and compliance with company standards.
Continuously research the latest electrical technologies, systems, and trends to ensure that estimates reflect the most efficient and cost-effective solutions.
Keep up to date with fluctuations in the prices of electrical materials, labor rates, and other relevant factors that can affect estimates.
Communicate directly with clients or potential clients to clarify requirements, negotiate terms, and present estimates in a clear and professional manner.
Offer assistance during the post-bid phase, including clarifying queries from clients or internal teams.
Ensure that all electrical estimates comply with local codes, regulations, and safety standards.
Factor in sustainable practices and energy-efficient solutions in electrical system design and estimation.
