Job Description
Main Purpose of the Job:
The Senior Design Manager will be tasked with Project and Design Management, reviewing all engineering drawings and design work, Infrastructure Planning as well as managing and coordinating all design review activities on large Build Environment & Infrastructure projects in the Middle East.

The Senior Design Manager will be tasked with Project and Design Management, reviewing all engineering drawings and design work, Infrastructure Planning as well as managing and coordinating all design review activities on large Build Environment & Infrastructure projects in the Middle East.
Key responsibilities and duties are listed, but not limited to, the below:
- Day to day management/coordination of all design review activities, including stakeholder management, budget control and reporting
- Regular liaison with the contractor’s and client’s representatives for all design review activities
- Administer the review of all design and technical submissions
- Ensure proper controls are in place for all disciplines i.e. QA/QC, contract compliance etc.
- Discipline progress control and reporting to Project Principal and client’s representative
- Identify and report any changes (variations)
- Monitor the project’s progress and the allocation of resources to the design review team; initiate changes as required
- Work with the Resident Engineers and Project Principal on resolving issues with the design
- Draft and review the status and adequacy of the design review plan; ensure its continuing effectiveness.
- Identify and manage delivery of information required by the project teams and contractors from and monitor progress against agreed timelines
- Identify risks and opportunities associated with coordination and advise the project teams regularly.
- Ensuring the Mott MacDonald’s best practices are implemented in an effective and economic manner
- Co-ordination with the engineering co-ordinator
- Lead design review and report on any recommendation that can aid with delivery and the project’s financials
- Responsible for the distribution of engineering review tasks amongst the site supervision team
Candidate Specification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or similar relevant engineering discipline.
- Chartered Engineer or equivalent Licensed / registered engineer with a recognized authority is preferred.
- Experience in engineering design management, commercial project management and project controls. Experience in Gulf region is preferred.
- Experience in leading design teams, project planning, technical report writing and preparation of proposals.
- Familiarity with international design review standards and knowledge in Abu Dhabi and Dubai Standards.
- Experience within a consultancy environment specifically within the transport industry
- Continuously looking for innovations and improvements to manage workload and accomplish deliverables across individuals, teams and projects
- Using leadership skills to build and nurture relationships and also creating effective working environments
- Able to manage multiple teams with diverse backgrounds on geographically and culturally diverse teams
