Role: Senior Consultant - Customs and International Trade
Builds and cultivates strong business relationships and shows technical and operational Leadership to deliver quality, client-centric solutions. Manages the preparation, delivery, reporting and evaluation for larger and higher risk projects and engagements. Advocates innovation both within the firm and with clients and takes a leading role in developing team members to their full potential and promoting collaboration among larger teams. Provides advanced technical knowledge, direction and training to others and participates in team practice decisions such as resource allocation.
Major duties and responsibilities
Actively undertakes business development with existing as well as new / potential clients with a view to generate projects and revenue for the tax practice and for other functions of the firm.
Participates in proposals for tax projects and multifunctional projects including proposal strategy and development, providing inputs to pricing of the engagement, co-ordination with other parties for inputs into the proposal
Delivers high quality tax engagements for Partner / Director review in a timely manner
Co-ordinates with other offices for multi-office engagements, critically reviews inputs received from such offices, challenges the conclusions reached based on prior experience such that the overall deliverable to client is of high quality
Ensures that practice management is up to date including prompt submission of timesheets, client files, billing, collection, WIP review, payouts to other offices, multi-firm engagement documentation and closure of engagements on the system
Actively manages teams, including effective delegation, review of work, training on the job and ensuring regular check-in conversations are
Provides inputs into the budgeting process and business plan development as necessary
Co-ordinates with the Partner / Director group on client as well as team issues and effectively acts as a channel between the team and leadership
Undertakes performance manager role for team members reporting, ensures that the performance management cycle is completed effectively and timely
Participates in developing formal training plans and implementation of the training plan for team members
Acts as a mentor for team members, offers guidance and counseling as required
Education requirements:
Bachelor\'s degree in Law, Finance, Accounting, International Relations
Potentially an advanced degree/certification in Customs & Trade
Work experience requirements:
4-6 years of experience
Big 4 experience preferred
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
Has the ability to work autonomously
Has excellent report writing skills
Knowledge / Technical Skills 1 Strong knowledge of customs origin, valuations & classification 2 Excellent Project management skills, including coordinating with multiple member firms, meeting deadlines, working with and coaching associates, etc. 3 Strong experience in business development, client relationship and client management, including preparing action plans for business development and identifying opportunities for cross-selling 5 Good risk management knowledge and application including documentation, ability to escalate issues quickly to risk management specialists for resolution, incorporating risk management into work environment such that it is a part of the inherent process of engagement delivery 6 Good practice management skills including debtors, timesheets, billing, follow up on recovery with clients.
