Senior Cashew Trader

Dubai, DU, AE, United Arab Emirates

Job Description

Position Overview

We are a Dubai-based agri-commodities trading company seeking an experienced

Senior

Cashew Trader

to lead our

Raw Cashew Nut (RCN)

trading operations. The ideal candidate will have

10+ years of experience

in cashew trading with a proven track record of handling

25,000-30,000 tons

per year across

African sourcing origins

and selling into

Vietnam, India, other Asian markets, and Europe/US.

You will act as the

Product Profit Centre Head

for cashews, taking full ownership of the cashew trading business (RCN and cashew kernels) and its profitability. This role is based in Dubai and

reports directly to the CEO,

offering a competitive salary of

AED 16,000-18,000

per month (based on experience and capability).

Key Responsibilities

:

Trade Leadership:

Lead end-to-end trading of raw cashew nuts - sourcing from

all over Africa

and selling to international markets (Vietnam, India, broader Asia, Europe/US). Manage an annual volume of ~25,000-30,000 tons, ensuring profitable deals and timely execution.

Market Expansion:

Explore and

develop new markets

and supply sources for cashews, expanding the company's global footprint. Build a strong distribution network and drive customer development for both RCN and cashew kernels.

Profit Centre Management:

Act as the

Product Profit Centre Head

for cashews, owning the

P&L

and strategy for the cashew trading division. Formulate business plans, set volume and profit targets, and execute strategies to meet them.

Cashew Kernel Trading:

Oversee trading of

cashew kernels

in addition to RCN, leveraging understanding of the cashew processing value chain. Monitor kernel market trends and integrate kernel trading to maximize overall product line profitability.

Supplier & Buyer Network

: Build and maintain a robust network of suppliers (farmers, cooperatives, exporters across West and East Africa) and buyers (processors, importers in Vietnam, India, etc., and kernel buyers in Asia, EU, US). Foster long-term partnerships and alliances to secure reliable supply and market outlets.

Negotiation & Contracts

: Negotiate purchase and sales contracts with skill and precision - including pricing, quality specifications, incoterms, and payment terms. Ensure deals are

competitively structured

while managing risks and maintaining sustainable relationships.

Market Monitoring

: Continuously monitor global cashew market conditions - supply/demand dynamics, crop forecasts, price trends, and government policy changes - and adjust trading strategies accordingly. Provide regular market analysis and insights to inform decision-making.

Risk Management

: Manage trade risks by staying alert to price volatility, currency fluctuations, and counterparty risk. Use hedging or forward contracts where applicable and maintain contingency plans for market disruptions.

Operations & Logistics

: Coordinate closely with logistics, operations, and finance teams to ensure smooth execution of each trade from origin to destination. Oversee quality control (grading, drying, etc.) of RCN shipments to meet international standards and buyer requirements. Ensure compliance with all import/export regulations and documentation.

Reporting & Strategy

: Report trading performance, market developments, and forward strategies directly to the CEO and senior management. Recommend strategic initiatives (e.g. entering new origins, value-added product development, or investments in supply chain infrastructure) to drive growth in the cashew business.

Qualifications & Experience

Experience

:

Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in trading

raw cashew nuts (RCN) and cashew kernels (or similar agricultural commodities). A proven track record of handling high trade volumes (around

25,000-30,000

tons

annually

) is essential.

Industry Knowledge

: Deep understanding of the

global cashew market

- including key African origin countries and major processing/export destinations like Vietnam and India. In-depth knowledge of cashew supply chains (farm procurement, logistics, processing, and kernel export markets) is required.

Product Expertise

: Strong familiarity with

cashew kernels

and grades, market preferences, and pricing. Ability to trade cashew kernels effectively, not just raw nuts, is important to this role.

Commercial Acumen

: Demonstrated ability to manage a trading business as a profit centre, with full P&L responsibility. Strong financial acumen to plan budgets, understand trade finance, and optimize margins.

Business Development

: Proven skills in

business development

- identifying and onboarding new suppliers in origin countries and new buyers/markets globally. A history of expanding trading volumes and entering new markets is a plus.

Network & Relationships

: Established network of contacts in the cashew industry. Experience building and maintaining relationships with African producers/exporters and Asian/International buyers, including negotiating high-value contracts.

Education

: Bachelor's degree in Business, Agriculture, Finance or a related field is preferred (or equivalent experience). An MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification is a bonus but not mandatory.

Skills & Competencies

Negotiation Skills

:

Excellent negotiation and deal-making abilities

- adept at securing favorable terms and resolving conflicts to close deals successfully. Should be comfortable negotiating in multicultural environments and high-stakes situations.

Market Insight & Analysis

: Strong analytical skills to track market trends, interpret supply-and-demand data, and forecast price movements. Able to quickly adapt strategies based on market intelligence and global economic indicators.

Financial & Risk Management

: Good grasp of

finance and risk management

in trading - including understanding of commodity pricing, currency exchange impacts, and risk mitigation techniques (e.g. hedging, diversification).

Strategic Thinking

: Entrepreneurial mindset with strategic thinking to grow the cashew trading vertical. Capable of spotting opportunities for new products or value addition and formulating plans to capitalize on them. Communication & Leadership: Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Able to liaise with farmers on the ground as well as C-level clients. Should inspire confidence as a product head and work collaboratively with internal teams.

Adaptability & Learning Zeal

:

Eager to learn

and stay updated on industry developments. Flexible and resilient in the face of market volatility and regulatory changes. Shows a

zeal to perform

and thrives in a fast-paced trading environment, taking initiative to drive results.

Organizational Skills

: Highly organized and detail-oriented in managing contracts, shipping documentation, inventory, and finance records. Ability to juggle multiple shipments and deals simultaneously without losing accuracy.

Languages

: Fluency in

English

is a must (for international trade communication).

French

proficiency is a strong bonus, as it facilitates better interaction in Francophone African markets.

to sourcing regions in Africa and to key customer markets (Asia, Europe/US) as required. This includes visiting farms, attending trade fairs, and meeting clients to strengthen relationships and explore opportunities.
