About the Role

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will own the design, implementation, and operation of our high-throughput, microservices-based REST APIs. You'll work across Go and Python services, ensuring scalable, fault-tolerant communication, data integrity, and sub-millisecond response times. You'll also lead the evolution of our cloud infrastructure, container tooling, and observability practices.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Design: Lead service-oriented design sessions, and define API contracts, event schemas, and data models. Service Development: Build and maintain Python (FastAPI, Django) microservices. Inter-Service Communication: Implement and optimize asynchronous messaging (RabbitMQ) and event streaming patterns. Data Management: Design schemas and performance-tune PostgreSQL and Cassandra clusters. Implement Redis caching layers. Containerization & Deployment: Own Docker Compose workflows locally, and AWS ECS (EC2 & Fargate) deployments via CloudFormation. Observability & Reliability: Instrument services with structured logging (ELK), distributed tracing, and error monitoring (e.g. Sentry). Mentorship: Coach mid-level engineers, and establish best practices for code quality, testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
Must-Have Qualifications (7+ years)

Backend Development: ?7 years building production-grade microservices architectures. Languages & Frameworks: Deep expertise in Python with FastAPI, Django, and Django Ninja. Messaging: Proven experience with RabbitMQ (or equivalent brokers) for robust, at-scale messaging. Datastores: Hands-on with relational (PostgreSQL), NoSQL (Apache Cassandra), and Graph databases; comprehensive Redis usage. Containerization: Extensive Docker/Docker Compose usage; operational knowledge of AWS ECS (EC2 & Fargate). Networking & Proxies: Solid experience configuring Traefik or Nginx in containerized environments. API Security & Performance: Strong track record designing secure, high-performance REST and gRPC endpoints. Production Ops: Skilled troubleshooting and monitoring live systems using ELK, Sentry, Prometheus, etc.
Nice To have:

AWS Ecosystem: Deep familiarity with S3, CloudFront, VPC design, ALBs, and CloudFormation. Infrastructure as Code: Experience authoring and managing CloudFormation templates or Terraform modules. Kubernetes: Practical knowledge of Kubernetes for advanced orchestration and resiliency. Asynchronous Patterns: ASGI/Daphne for high-concurrency Fast API apps.
