U+P Environmental Planning & Sustainability Lead role sits within the Urban Planning team of the Urbanism + Planning (U+P) practice line and leads environmental planning and sustainability in all projects delivered by U+P studio. This involves leading the conception of creative, responsive to environmental context and sustainable urban planning and design strategies and solutions, working within the studio team to provide technical environmental support on allocated city scale strategic planning, spatial planning, master planning, urban design and landscape architecture projects from environmental planning and climate change adaptation and mitigation perspective.

The position requires to lead, develop, produce, coordinate or procure environmental and sustainability component of the projects in U+P portfolio, which comprises of urban planning, urban design and masterplanning and landscape architecture focused large scale iconic projects.

Manages and delivers environment and sustainability component of high value complex multi-disciplinary projects with project management skills, working directly with the Associate Director and Director levels

Leads showcase complex proposals and ensures high quality output including innovative ways to present

Independently manages client expectations and deliverables to ensure alignment with contracted scopes by leading client and project meetings, articulating and defending the work undertaken.

Ability to operate as the environment and sustainability technical lead for multiple projects at various scale of master planning and public realm design projects with a sound understanding of all relevant planning and design workstreams.

Provide specific technical expertise in environmental planning, environmental permitting, preliminary environmental appraisals and establishing environmental baseline for all projects

Manage environmental and sustainability subject matter experts and subconsultants where needed

Provide specific technical expertise in sustainable planning and design visioning, strategy preparation that focuses on not only international and regional sustainability rating schemes but also on climate change adaptation and mitigation on a broader context.

Provide specific technical expertise and liaison on ESG implementation across U+P portfolio in line with AECOM\'s ESG Strategy Sustainable Legacies

Ability to lead digital transformation and thought leadership tasks on decarbonisation, biodiversity net gain, climate positive design and natural capital accounting at urban scale.

Able to influence multidisciplinary projects teams to incorporate climate action strategies without formal authority

Has strong capabilities to coordinate, challenge, and work with multiple disciplines for complex projects and communicate project environment and sustainability objectives/deliverables to drive the best outcome.

Ability to work with and influence sustainable planning and design decisions in wider U+P team without formal authority.

Has strong people management skills and provides professional environmental planning and sustainable urbanism mentorship/guidance to junior staff members.

Seeks out ways to improve environmental analysis and quantifiable sustainability implementation processes and ensures critical thinking is conducted throughout the planning team.

Has excellent written and presentation skills in English/Arabic (preferred) with an ability to coordinate and develop a deliverable (report) as well as create a presentation and summary to support the deliverable.

Leads both environment and sustainability disciplines along with associated ESG components.

Strong understanding of environmental and sustainability governance and policy and mandate and can communicate these to internal and external teams and clients and make recommendations to clients where relevant.

Can structure and manage tailored environmental and sustainability planning strategies and guidelines and controls as per project requirements.

Strong ability to communicate differences between project scale, scope and stages and drive outcomes of report structure and content.

Prepare and deliver presentations to clients and government (approving agencies) to advance approvals of development, Master Plans, Development Guidelines and policies and rating system award submissions.

Liaise with government agencies and other authorities as may be required regarding development objectives, policies and procedures

It is Environment and Sustainability Lead\'s responsibility to prepare an annual strategy for environmental planning and sustainability to achieve technical excellency and sustainable business growth in line with AECOM\'s values and business plans

Qualifications

Minimum 15 years\' experience in Urban Planning and/or Environmental Planning and Sustainability; applicants would ideally have a mixture of private sector and some government experience

Bachelor\'s Degree in Environmental Planning or equivalent is essential.

Master\'s level degree or at least 3 years of relevant work experience in sustainability in urban planning and urban design projects is essential.
