The key responsibilities of a school nurse include: 1. Providing medical assistance for students and staff at the school. 2. Providing support and advice for parents and school staff on childhood illnesses and management and control of infection and communicable diseases; 3. Carrying on health assessment of students at key stages of their development, eg height, weight, vision and hearing. 4. Providing support for children with healthcare needs, eg asthma, diabetes or epilepsy; 5. Undertaking immunization programs if instructed to do so; 6. Keeping a register of all students who have potentially life-threatening illnesses and making these names known to staff. 7. Keeping a register of all students who visit the clinic. 8. Ordering and maintaining stocks of essential medical supplies for use in the clinic. 9. Ensuring the clinic is kept in a clean and sanitary condition, free from germs and bacteria. 10. Keeping parents informed if their child has been seriously hurt eg head injury. 11. Making the decision to have students visit the hospital for serious injuries and accompanying them if need be. 12. Demonstrating ethnic and cultural sensitivity and competence. 13. Liaise with Health Department when called on to do so. 14. Keep essential health data on all students using an automated computer program. 15. Refer students to health centre or clinics when required. 16. Notify parents of students who have head lice. 17. Perform other duties as assigned by the school\xe2\x80\x99s doctor or principal. A valid Ministry of Health (MOH) License will be required. At least 2years experience working in a school environment.
