Scenic Construction Tutor Start Date August 2023 Employment Type Full Time Closing Date for Applications Scope of the Job Responsible to: Programme Leader \xe2\x80\x93 Production Arts Responsible for: Deputy Carpenter Works Closely with: The Production Manager and the Production Arts Department Job Purpose Alongside the Programme Leader \xe2\x80\x93 Production Arts and other colleagues, develop and deliver training and assessment in Scenic Building and manage the output of the workshop to a world-leading standard. Duties and Responsibilities Reporting to the Programme Leader \xe2\x80\x93 Production Arts of the Academy, the Scenic Construction Tutor shall execute the following tasks and responsibilities: \xe2\x80\xa2 Leadership and training of students in the Production Arts courses in Scenic Building and relevant technologies. \xe2\x80\xa2 Contributing to the Academy\xe2\x80\x99s commitment to the continuous raising of standards in the training of students for careers in the arts and entertainment industry and the development of new technologies. \xe2\x80\xa2 Maintaining the professional currency of the training in Scenic Building and new technologies through contact with the industry, for both staff development and to maintain a professional currency of the curriculum. Training and Tuition: \xe2\x80\xa2 Developing the construction syllabus for the BA Production Arts programme. \xe2\x80\xa2 Teaching all Undergraduate the construction syllabi. \xe2\x80\xa2 Supervision and guidance of students fulfilling a construction role on Academy productions and projects, working with external creatives and the Academy Production Manager. \xe2\x80\xa2 Assessment of students fulfilling a construction role on Academy productions and projects. Productions: \xe2\x80\xa2 Close liaison with other departments, in particular those relating to production. \xe2\x80\xa2 Maintaining and communicating to other departments a schedule of the Workshop\xe2\x80\x99s activities. \xe2\x80\xa2 Other related duties that may arise as a member of the Production Arts programme team. Finance: \xe2\x80\xa2 To manage spending and reconciliation of any budget designated. \xe2\x80\xa2 To research and propose any capital expenditure to keep in line with current industry developments. Health and Safety: \xe2\x80\xa2 To engage with relevant Health and Safety training regarding the teaching and delivery of Scenic Construction. \xe2\x80\xa2 To be familiar with, and comply with current Health and Safety regulations relevant to the industry. \xe2\x80\xa2 To ensure that personnel and students adhere to safe working practices. Key Interactions The Scenic Construction Tutor is part of the Teaching Faculty, directly responsible to the Programme Leader \xe2\x80\x93 Production Arts. Knowledge and Experience Essential: \xe2\x80\xa2 Relevant undergraduate qualification. \xe2\x80\xa2 A strong background of at least five years working in professional theatre workshops in a producing environment. \xe2\x80\xa2 Conversant with current and developing scenic construction techniques. \xe2\x80\xa2 Strong understanding of CAD programmes. \xe2\x80\xa2 Flexible approach to working and developing the post. \xe2\x80\xa2 A determined and efficient individual. Desirable: \xe2\x80\xa2 Relevant postgraduate qualification. \xe2\x80\xa2 Budget Management. \xe2\x80\xa2 Experience in teaching and working at HE level.
