Job Summary
The Construction Safety Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that all construction activities are performed safely and in compliance with applicable safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards. This role monitors site operations, conducts safety inspections, leads safety meetings, and provides guidance to ensure a strong safety culture among all workers and subcontractors on the project.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor daily site operations to ensure compliance with safety laws, codes, and company standards.
Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions to prevent incidents or injuries.
Develop and implement site-specific safety plans, procedures, and training programs.
Conduct safety inductions and toolbox talks for workers and subcontractors.
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; prepare detailed reports and follow up on corrective actions.
Ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintain safety documentation, including inspection checklists, permits, and reports.
Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and contractors to promote a proactive safety culture.
Stay up to date with local and national safety regulations and best practices.
Report to project and corporate management on safety performance metrics.
Qualifications
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
Certification in safety management (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA 30/Construction, CSP, CHST, or equivalent).
Minimum [4-5] years of experience in construction safety supervision.
Strong knowledge of construction safety regulations, hazard recognition, and risk control measures.
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to train and motivate site personnel on safety matters.
Proficient in safety documentation and reporting systems.
First Aid/CPR certification (preferred).
Working Conditions
Construction site environment; exposure to weather, noise, and heavy equipment.
May require evening, weekend, or overtime work depending on project needs.
Must be able to walk, stand, and climb for extended periods.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Reduction in incident and near-miss rates.
Timely completion of safety inspections and reports.
Compliance with safety audit requirements.
Worker participation and engagement in safety programs.
