Position Overview
The Rooms Controller role at Sofitel Dubai The Obelisk is responsible for balancing room inventory, optimizing room allocations, and ensuring every guest is assigned the right room at the right rate, aligned with preferences, profiles, and brand standards to deliver a seamless arrival experience.

Role Summary
The Rooms Controller manages room blocking, inventory control, and coordination with Housekeeping and Front Office teams, acting as the central point of knowledge for VIP, group, leisure, and long-stay reservations to ensure operational efficiency and exceptional guest satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities

  • Block VIP and RA rooms seven days in advance in line with Sofitel standards and Front Office leadership guidelines
  • Block special requests and long-stay guests seven days in advance to meet guest preferences and operational needs
  • Ensure all traces, notes, and communication tools are accurately updated in reservations for seamless on-property service
  • Coordinate closely with Housekeeping to ensure special amenities and requests are delivered to blocked rooms
  • Review group resumes and ensure all departments are informed, with accurate details entered into Opera and shared with the Assistant Front Office Manager for scheduling
  • Maintain balanced room inventory across all categories 30 days out, with regular reviews at 10 days, 5 days, and one day prior
  • Communicate potential challenges or risks to the Front Desk Manager or Assistant Front Office Manager
  • Review room queues and work with Housekeeping to expedite room turnover
  • Notify guests when rooms are ready and coordinate luggage delivery with Guest Services when required
  • Manage due-out and discrepancy updates in coordination with Housekeeping
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and safekeeping of guest personal data
  • Respond positively and professionally to guest and internal queries
  • Maintain reports for daily room upgrades and track front desk upselling performance
  • Support reception and telephone operator queries as required
  • Attend group and operational meetings
  • Adhere to Sofitel service standards, safety policies, and grooming requirements at all times
Ideal Profile
  • Degree from a School for Tourism or Hotel Management
  • Minimum one year of experience in a supervisory or equivalent role within hospitality or customer service
  • Strong passion for guest service with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized, reliable, and able to work effectively under pressure
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with attention to detail
  • Fluency in English; additional languages are an advantage
  • Computer proficiency in a Windows environment
  • Knowledge of Opera or Micros-Fidelio Property Management System is an asset
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while remaining calm, courteous, and guest-focused
