Position Title

Rodman / Chainman Mandatory Requirements: Secondary School Cert. / Cert. In Surveying certificate or degree in surveying or a related field will be an advantage. Minimum of 5 years experience as a surveyor's assistant or in a related field Good knowledge of surveying and mapping techniques Middle East / Kuwait work experience is an advantage. Excellent communication skills.

Primary objective

Responsible for providing support to surveyors in the field. Responsible for setting up and maintaining surveying equipment, measuring distances and angles and making boundaries. Specific Accountabilities

Preparing survey drawings, assisting in boundary calculations and helping draft legal descriptions. Assist in surveys to ascertain the locations of natural features and man-made structures on the earth's surface, underground, and underwater using electronic distance-measuring equipment and other surveying instruments. Assist in laying out grids and determine horizontal and vertical controls. Maintain equipment and vehicles used by surveying crews. Perform manual labor, such as cutting brush for lines, carrying stakes, rebar, and other heavy items, and stacking rods. Place and hold measuring tapes when electronic distance-measuring equipment is not used. Position and hold the vertical rods, or targets, that operators use for sighting to measure angles, distances, and elevations. Provide assistance in the development of methods and procedures for conducting field surveys. Assist in record survey measurements and descriptive data using notes, drawings, sketches, and inked tracings. Assist in the search for section corners, property irons, and survey points. Assist in setting out and recovering stakes, marks, and other monumentation. Run rods for benches and cross-section elevations. Operate and manage land information computer systems, performing tasks such as storing data, making inquiries, and producing plots and reports. Read, understand, interpret, and analyse complex regulations, standards, and a wide variety of information related to planning and environmental issues, available in a wide variety of formats. Conduct field visits and inspections at construction sites and a wide variety of outdoor locations by safely navigating all types of terrain, including potentially hazardous sites, in all weather conditions. Safety - Responsible for personal safety safe working practices. Uses appropriate safety equipment and follows established work safety policies, practices, and procedures.

Essential Skills/Experience

Must possess a good understanding of surveying principles. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to work with a variety of tools and equipment (GPS Total Station & Data Collector, Handheld GPS, Prism Sets, Adjustable range poles, Tripods, Digital Camera, Hammers, Shovel, Pick, Measurement Tapes, Metal Detectors, etc.). Ability to use computers and other technology. Must have visual aptitude and good communication skills (oral and written) and graphic when performing tasks. Good physical condition and able to work outdoors in all types of weather and terrain, in a variety of conditions and be comfortable with manual labor. Able to communicate clearly and accurately to relay data to surveyors and other personnel.
