A Retinal Surgeon Specialist/Consultant Ophthalmologist with an MOH license in the UAE is responsible for diagnosing and treating a wide range of retinal and vitreous disorders, offering advanced surgical and medical care to patients. This role requires expertise in managing retinal conditions, state-of-the-art surgical skills, and the ability to collaborate with other ophthalmic subspecialties.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Assessment and Diagnosis:
Conduct thorough clinical evaluations, including detailed history-taking and ocular examinations using advanced diagnostic tools (e.g., OCT, fundus photography, fluorescein angiography).
Identify and diagnose retinal conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachment, and other vitreoretinal diseases.
Surgical and Non-Surgical Treatments:
Perform advanced surgical procedures, including:
Vitrectomy
Retinal detachment repair
Epiretinal membrane peeling
Management of macular holes
Administer intravitreal injections (e.g., anti-VEGF, steroids) and laser treatments.
Patient Management and Follow-up:
Design and implement personalized treatment plans.
Provide pre-operative and post-operative care and ensure optimal recovery outcomes.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
Work closely with other ophthalmologists, optometrists, and healthcare professionals to deliver integrated care.
Refer patients to other specialties as necessary for comprehensive management.
Continuous Education and Compliance:
Stay updated on advancements in vitreoretinal surgery and treatment options.
Adhere to UAE's medical regulations and maintain MOH licensing requirements.
Administrative and Supervisory Roles (Consultant Level):
Oversee junior ophthalmologists and provide mentorship.
Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives within the department.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
MBBS and postgraduate qualification (MD/MS/DNB) in Ophthalmology.
Fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery or equivalent subspecialty training.
Licensing:
Valid Ministry of Health (MOH) license in the UAE or eligibility to acquire it.
Experience:
Specialist: Minimum of 5 years of experience post-residency.
Consultant: Minimum of 10 years of experience, including advanced surgical procedures.
Skills:
Proficiency in vitreoretinal surgical techniques and diagnostic tools.
Strong communication, patient management, and teamwork skills.
Ability to handle emergencies, such as retinal detachments, with confidence.
