The Retail Category Manager is responsible for developing and executing category strategies to drive sales, improve profitability, and ensure an excellent product assortment that meets customer needs. The role involves supplier management, pricing, promotions, inventory control, and coordination with marketing and operations teams to achieve business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement category strategies aligned with company goals.
Analyze market trends, customer preferences, and competitor activities to identify opportunities.
Plan and manage product assortment, pricing, and promotional strategies.
Negotiate with suppliers for best terms, pricing, and promotional support.
Monitor category performance (sales, margin, stock levels, turnover rate).
Ensure product availability through effective inventory management.
Collaborate with marketing for product launches and promotional campaigns.
Review sales data and provide regular category performance reports.
Coordinate with stores and visual merchandising to ensure proper product display and positioning.
Identify and introduce new products or brands to improve category offering.
Job Criteria / Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Retail Management, or related field.
Experience:
Minimum 7-10 years of experience in category management, buying, or merchandising within retail or FMCG.
Skills:
Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
Excellent understanding of retail operations and consumer behavior.
Proficiency in MS Excel, Power BI, and ERP systems (SAP preferred).
Strong communication and supplier relationship management.
Ability to work under pressure and meet targets.
