What we want The Research Engineering Associate II, will play a critical role in optimizing and manufacturing products using Metal 3D printing technology. We are seeking a candidate who possesses strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of materials science and engineering principles.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Materials or Manufacturing Engineering or related fields

3 years of related work experience

3 years of experience in metal 3D printing or additive manufacturing

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Knowledge of CAD software, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and other related software programs.

Experience with additive manufacturing machines and related software.

Familiarity with AM process control and data management software.

Highly motivated, team-oriented.

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Work independently and collaboratively with other cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

Technical Evaluation and Optimization: The AM Engineer must be proficient in evaluating CAD files for printability and optimizing models for the chosen metal printing technology to ensure the final product meets the required specifications.

Material Selection: The AM Engineer must choose the appropriate materials for the intended purpose and application. They must also understand the properties of different materials and how they behave during the printing process.

Developing Printing Parameters: The AM Engineer must develop and fine-tune printing parameters, such as layer thickness, printing speed, and temperature, to ensure consistent quality and performance of printed parts.

Testing and Troubleshooting: The AM Engineer must test and validate the printed parts to ensure they meet the required standards and specifications. They must also troubleshoot and fix any issues that arise during the printing process.

Collaborating with Cross-Functional Teams: The AM Engineer must work with design teams, materials scientists and researchers, machine shop engineers, and quality engineers to ensure the final product meets the required standards and specifications in case of industry services.

Staying Up to Date with the Latest Technology: The AM technology is rapidly evolving, and the Engineer must stay up-to-date with the latest developments, innovations, and best practices.

Ensuring Safety and Compliance: The AM Engineer must ensure that all AM processes comply with safety regulations and industry standards. They must also identify and mitigate any risks associated with the printing process.

Knowledge Transfer: The AM Engineer will work closely with the program chair and labs manager to provide hands-on training and workshops and mentorship to PhD students on research projects.
