Position Overview

KU is seeking a highly motivated Research Engineer to work on the development of photonic based sensing devices for biomedical applications. The work will mainly focus on the development of wearable structures to be applied in rehabilitation scenarios and to provide laboratory support to POWER undergoing tasks.

As part of the project, the researcher will have access to state-of-the-art research equipment and facilities at the Biomedical Department and HEIC and will get an opportunity to work alongside researchers and graduate students from various backgrounds as part of a wider team.

Position Requirements

Project Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development of novel sensing photonic based sensing structures to monitor physical parameters, such as torsion, range of mention, temperature and force.
• Contributes to the overall activities of the research team as required.
• Provide technical support to faculty members and students conducting research and participate in funded research projects.
• Maintain liaison with investigators, research personnel and staff to solve specific operating problems and improve technical activities.

Lab Responsibilities

• Drive practices and metrics, which ensure that the laboratories operate in compliance with all aspects of Khalifa University Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies.
• Ensure Research lab equipment is operational to the maximum extent possible and improve operations through efficient use of existing equipment.
• Design and fabricate systems for experimental purposes.
• Supervise the management of supply and parts inventory, manage the inventory of commonly used lab supplies.
• Advise the faculty and researchers to purchase consumables and accessories for equipment.
• Manage the technical aspects of the request for quotation with spare parts approved suppliers and vendors.
• Adhere to the University\'s information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly.
• Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager

Qualifications

Candidate Profile

Essential Criteria

• Master from a reputable university in the fields of Electrical/Biomedical/Physics Engineering or related discipline or experience suitable to the tasks to be implemented.
• Experience of providing high quality operational support in a research labs environment, including equipment management/ maintenance and research support
• Experience of undertaking assigned research tasks.
• A willingness to contribute to a collaborative and supportive team culture.
• Excellent English language communication skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Ability to function as part of a team working on multiple tasks with competing demands and deadlines.
• Well-developed reasoning and problem-solving skills

Desired Criteria

• Graduate from a top 200 QS or THE ranked University
• Relevant experience in rehabilitation requirements and wearable sensors.
• Experience contributing to high impact publications in the relevant field
