The Research Assistant will play a key role in supporting a funded research project focused on understanding the effects of microplastics on soil health, greenhouse gas emissions, and plant performance under arid UAE conditions. The position involves assisting with greenhouse and field experiments, soil and plant sampling, application of biochar and compost amendments, and routine laboratory analyses. The Research Assistant will also support data organization, preliminary statistical analysis, and preparation of progress reports. This position provides valuable hands-on training in sustainable agriculture, soil plant interactions, and climate change mitigation, while offering opportunities to work within a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with international research partners and contribute to high-quality scientific outputs and capacity building efforts.

The Research Assistant will support the execution of a research project investigating the effects of microplastics on soil health, greenhouse gas emissions, and plant physiological responses under arid environmental conditions, and evaluating the mitigation potential of biochar and compost amendments. The Research Assistant will assist in greenhouse and field experiments, including soil preparation, treatment application (microplastics, biochar, and compost), crop establishment and maintenance such as Moringa and Quinoa), and systematic sampling of soil and plant materials. The role includes supporting measurements of plant growth parameters, soil physicochemical properties, and basic physiological and biochemical indicators. The Research Assistant will also assist in laboratory work related to soil and plant analyses, greenhouse gas sampling, and routine data collection and organization. Additional responsibilities include maintaining experimental records, assisting with data entry and preliminary statistical analysis, and supporting the preparation of progress reports and scientific outputs under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. This position provides hands-on research training in soil-plant interactions, sustainable agriculture, and environmental impact assessment in arid ecosystems.
