The Research Assistant will work under the supervision of a Professor of Entomology in the Biology Department on a research project focused on the red palm weevil. The work will include: o Conduct fieldwork, including the collection of red palm weevils from farms. o Carry out laboratory work such as rearing red palm weevils, performing DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and other routine molecular and entomological procedures. o Enter data accurately into digital records and assist in data analysis. o Assist in literature review, reference management, and contribute to manuscript preparation. o Collaborate with graduate students in both field and laboratory activities. o Maintain laboratory organization and manage inventory. o Monitor and document laboratory records, including purchasing, waste management, and equipment maintenance.
Minimum Qualification
The successful candidate should hold a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Entomology, or Zoology, and possess a valid UAE driving license for travel related to sample collection. Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken, are required. Prior experience in insecticide bioassays and PCR techniques is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) is also required.
Preferred Qualification
Previous work in UAEU research laboratories and familiarity with the UAEU research system are preferred.
