The Role
The successful applicant will work as a research assistant (RA) on a project studying livestock ticks in the UAE. The RA will do the following tasks: (1) conduct fieldwork including traveling for sample collection from camel and animal farms in the UAE, (2) conduct laboratory work including sample processing, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis and other lab tasks, (3) perform data entry into the computer and participate in data analysis, (4) collect and sort references and participate in manuscript writing, (5) work with graduate students in the field and the laboratory, (6) organize the laboratory and conduct inventory, and (7) keep track of the laboratory records (purchasing, waste recycling, maintenance).
Requirements
Minimum Qualification Bachelor's degree in Entomology, Biology, or Zoology. Preferred Qualification Bachelor's degree in Entomology, Biology, or Zoology. Expected Skills/Rank/Experience The successful applicant should have a valid UAE driving license to travel for sample collection. In addition, the applicant should have good knowledge of UAE animals and preferably be familiar with UAE University's research system. Also, the applicant should have excellent English writing and speaking skills. Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
