Job Description
Research Assistant position is available in the laboratory of Professor Safa Shehab at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to investigate the mechanisms underlying neuropathic chronic pain and how to treat this debilitating condition in rats.
This position is valid till the end of December 2023 and might be extended for another few months in 2024.
This is a technical position which will require a variety of tasks including: * Handling rodents and performing surgical operation under general anesthesia.
- Exposing and injecting peripheral nerves under general anesthesia.
- Test pain behaviour.
- perfusing animals under general anesthesia
- Preparation of frozen sections using cryostat.
- Performing Immunocytochemistry.
- Confocal Laser microscopy.
- Data analysis and writing manuscripts.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor degree or preferably MSc in biology or a relevant scientific field.

Expected Skills/Rank/Experience
- Theoretical knowledge in cellular and molecular biology and cell biology related to the nervous system
- Experience in performing cell biology and biochemical laboratory techniques
- Experience using microscopes (light, fluorescence, confocal, and electron microscopes).
- Knowledge of computer and word processing/database/spreadsheet software.
- Good organization and time management skills.
- Good oral and written communication and training skills.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical and statistical analysis.
