Position at Kanad Hospital Kanad Hospital (formerly known as Oasis Hospital) was established in 1960 by Doctors Pat and Mariam Kennedy at ?the request of HH Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan. The Kennedys were physicians from the United States whose primary ?goal was to honor God by providing loving healthcare to those in this region. Job Functions and Key Accountability's

  • Professional responsibility, performance and practice:
    • Accepts responsibility and accountability for all actions and decision making within scope of practice as defined by DOH
    • Adheres to the Code of Conduct for DOH, and the organization
    • Completes mandatory and unit specific competencies and demonstrates ongoing compliance with appropriate evidence.
    • Develops and maintains own professional portfolio.
    • Takes responsibility for own professional development and actively engages in ongoing self-directed learning.
    • Obtains accredited and non-accredited Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Units in compliance with DOH requirements.
    • Complete mandatory annual staff training requirements.
    • Participates in self and peer evaluation including reflective practice
    • Maintain any qualifications, including license and certificates such as Basic Life Support and other mandatory training within established timeframes.
    • Complying consistently with all organization policies, procedures and practices relevant to position.
    • Demonstrates leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession.
  • Management of nursing care:
    • ensure you carry out your work in a way that is person/patient focused and meets professional standards
    • Provides nursing care to achieve identified outcomes, utilizing appropriate resources to plan and provide nursing services that are safe, effective, and financially responsible.
    • Undertakes a comprehensive and accurate nursing assessment of a patients needs in an organized and systematic manner.
    • Ensures accurate and timely documentation, and maintains confidentiality of all information.
    • Upholds patients' rights to make informed choices.
    • Advocates for patients and their families in all clinical activities
    • Acts appropriately to protect oneself and others when faced with unexpected patient and/or family responses, confrontation, personal threat or other crisis situations.
    • Evaluates patients' response to nursing interventions and progress toward expected outcomes in partnership with the patient, their family, and the health care team.
    • Provides appropriate health education and information to the needs of the patient and their family.
    • Effectively establishes, maintains and concludes therapeutic relationships with patients and their families receiving healthcare.
    • Accepts responsibility for ensuring that his/her nursing practice and conduct meet the standards of professional, ethical and relevant legislated requirements.
    • Demonstrates the ability to apply the principles of cross-cultural knowledge and culturally sensitive skills in implementing culturally congruent safe nursing care.
    • Practices nursing in a manner that the health consumer determines as being culturally safe.
    • Evaluates her/his own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, and relevant statutes, rules, and regulations.
    • Participates in supporting, developing and teaching colleagues to enhance nursing care outcomes. Attains knowledge and competence that reflects current nursing practice.

  • Communication and collaboration:
    • Facilitates effective communication between the patient, family and the interdisciplinary healthcare team, as required.
    • Practices nursing in a negotiated partnership with the patient where and when possible.

    • Collaborates with the patient, family, and others in the conduct of nursing practice.

  • Quality improvement and risk management:
    • Participates in quality improvement activities to monitor and improve standards of nursing.
    • Monitors and assists in evaluating unit operation and services in order to correct problems, improve systems and ensure safe patient care.
    • Ensures provision of a clean and safe working environment that minimizes risks to patients and family
    • Actively contributes to the organizations' culture of patient safety.
    • To participate in change management programs within the organization.
    • To participate in clinical governance, quality and audit programs.
  • Patient and family education:
    • Assess patient and family education needs, plan for and provide education and evaluate outcome.
    • Ensures patient and family are provided with comprehensive information and resources to meet their health care needs.
    • Provides a suitable environment that supports patient and family learning.
    • Engages in health promotion activities in the healthcare organization and community.
  • General:
    • Clinical practice: Demonstrates integration of the unique knowledge and technical skills required for the specialty as per the Role Specific Clinical Practice & OSH Definitions and Descriptors in Appendix 1
    • Specialization: Technical skills required for this area as outlined in Clinical Competency and Training Matrix and/or the department/unit Scope of Service.
    • Adhering to the Occupational Safety and Health and Infection Control standards: All staff are expected at all times to practice in accordance with requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety manual, policies and procedures; and infection control standards specified in the policies of the organization.
    • The staff nurse will also be expected to contribute to the wider organization development needs as appropriate within scope of practice.
