Duties

The services of Reader Assistant (RA) are essential to a visually impaired employee\xe2\x80\x99s ability to perform the essential functions of their job and enjoy equal access to the rights and benefits of the workplace. RA conveys visual information to a visually impaired person that is not otherwise accessible with technology. They do this by assisting the employee or applicant in reading, writing, observing, describing, and navigating the physical environment, including by pointing out landmarks to assist in locating places and pointing out potential hazards.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:
Note: All applicants must currently hold or be able to acquire a UAE residency visa to fill the position. For non-UAE nationals, the Mission assists in obtaining the required residency visa to lawfully work in the UAE. Refer to Eligibility Question #2 and Vacancy Question #1: If a non-UAE national has a valid UAE residency visa, they should answer Yes to Eligibility Q#2 and Vacancy Q#1 and attach a copy of residency visa.
EXPERIENCE:

One year of experience as an administrative support or in the field of disability services and reasonable accommodations is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:

Basic understanding of the wide variety of subjects that encompass the work of a political-coned Foreign Service Officer. Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style preferred Knowledge of Sighted Guide Technique and other techniques used to guide those with vision disabilities
Education Requirements:
Two years of College or University Studies is required.
Evaluations:
LANGUAGE: "This may be tested."
Level IV - Fluent (reading, speaking and writing) English is required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

The ability to obtain and hold a Top-Secret security clearance
Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
Additional skill test may be required.

The pay plan and benefits are assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
