Use machines like X-rays, CT (computed tomography), MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), fluoroscopy, and mammography.
Ensure equipment is properly calibrated and maintained.
Explain procedures to patients and answer any questions.
Position patients correctly to ensure optimal image quality while minimizing radiation exposure.
Use protective devices to shield parts of the patient's body not being imaged.
Adhere strictly to radiation safety regulations (ALARA: As Low As Reasonably Achievable).
Check for contraindications (e.g., pregnancy, metal implants before MRI).
Monitor patients during procedures for signs of discomfort or adverse reactions.
Assess the quality of images to determine if additional views are necessary.
Ensure images meet diagnostic standards before submission to radiologists.
Maintain accurate patient records.
Input data into radiology information systems (RIS) or picture archiving and communication systems (PACS).
Assist in scheduling appointments and managing workflow.
Work closely with radiologists, doctors, nurses, and other allied health staff.
Communicate findings or concerns that need urgent attention.
Keep up to date with advances in radiographic techniques and technology.
Participate in training, workshops, and continuing education.
Depending on their qualifications and work setting, radiographers may also:
Administer contrast media under supervision.
Perform interventional procedures.
Assist in radiation therapy planning
