A Quantity Surveyor (QS) is responsible for managing all aspects of the contractual and financial side of construction projects. They ensure that projects are completed within budget and in compliance with legal and quality standards. This role involves cost estimation, budgeting, risk management, procurement, contract administration, and financial reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and feasibility studies for construction projects.
Analyze project drawings, specifications, and related documents to estimate costs.
Monitor project costs and ensure alignment with the approved budget.
Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities.
Evaluate tenders and advise on contractor selection.
Manage change orders and variations throughout the construction phase.
Liaise with clients, architects, contractors, and suppliers.
Conduct site visits and valuations of work done.
Provide cost advice and financial reporting to clients.
Assist in dispute resolution and claims handling.
Ensure compliance with legal and safety regulations.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
Professional membership (e.g., RICS, CIOB, AIQS) preferred.
Proven experience in cost management for construction projects.
Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations.
Proficiency in cost estimation software and MS Excel.
Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Work Environment:
Office-based with regular site visits.
Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
May involve travel depending on project location.
