Job Summary
We are looking for a qualified
Welding Inspector
with strong experience in
foundry and fabrication environments
, particularly in casting repair welding, pattern weld repairs, fettling areas, and structural welds for cast components. The ideal candidate will ensure that all welding work meets foundry quality standards and customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect welding on
castings
, including repair welding on defects such as porosity, shrinkage, cracks, and surface irregularities.
Ensure compliance with approved
WPS
,
PQR
, and
WQT
specific to
casting repair welding
.
Verify pre-weld and post-weld procedures such as
preheating
,
controlled cooling
,
stress relief
, and
heat treatment
when required.
Conduct
visual inspection (VT)
and coordinate
NDT tests
such as UT, MT, PT for casting integrity.
Check welding consumables, fillers, electrodes, and their suitability for different casting alloys (steel, ductile iron, alloy steel, etc.).
Monitor welding activities in fettling, finishing, machining, and repair bays.
Ensure proper gouging, grinding, and preparation of casting surfaces before welding.
Verify welder qualifications and ensure compliance with foundry standards.
Prepare inspection reports and maintain repair records for each casting.
Work closely with QA/QC, production, fettling, and heat treatment departments.
Ensure all welding is done per foundry safety protocols and metallurgical requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements
Diploma/Degree in Mechanical/Metallurgy/Industrial Engineering.
Certification:
CSWIP 3.1 / 3.2, CWI, or equivalent
is preferred.
Minimum
3-5 years experience
in a
foundry or heavy fabrication
industry.
Strong knowledge of
casting metallurgy
, weld repair procedures, and weldability of various alloys.
Experience with SMAW, GTAW, and other processes used for casting repair.
Ability to interpret casting drawings, repair maps, radiographic reports, and NDT findings.
Familiarity with ASTM, ISO, EN, and customer-specific foundry standards.
Strong documentation and quality reporting ability.
Preferred Skills
Experience in
steel or alloy casting foundries
.
Knowledge of
heat treatment cycles
for castings after weld repair.
Understanding of defects specific to casting and their acceptable limits.
Experience in radiographic film interpretation (if applicable).
