Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented QC Engineer specializing in Sandblasting and Painting to join our Quality Control team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring all surface preparation and coating applications meet project specifications, international standards, and client requirements. This role requires a hands-on approach, extensive technical knowledge, and a steadfast commitment to quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Inspection Duties:

  • Perform pre-job inspections to verify surface conditions, environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, dew point), and equipment calibration.
  • Monitor and inspect all stages of surface preparation (blasting, sweeping, cleaning) to ensure compliance with specified standards (e.g., ISO 8501, SSPC SP standards).
  • Conduct inspections during coating application to verify paint mixing, dilution, film thickness (WFT/DFT), number of coats, and adherence to technical data sheets (TDS).
  • Perform post-application inspections using a variety of instruments: digital coating thickness gauges (DFT), surface profile gauges, hygrometers, and adhesion testers.
  • Identify, document, and report any non-conformities, defects (e.g., pinholes, runs, sags, dry spray), and initiate corrective actions.
  • Review and approve Contractor Method Statements, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and quality records.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed daily inspection reports, logs, and quality documentation.
Quality System & Compliance:
  • Ensure all work is performed in strict compliance with project specifications, company procedures, and international standards (e.g., NACE, IMO, FROSIO, SSPC, ISO).
  • Liaise with clients and third-party inspectors, facilitating inspections and ensuring all quality records are available and approved.
  • Manage the Non-Conformance Report (NCR) process for the coating scope, from identification to close-out.
  • Conduct internal audits of coating processes and procedures.
Coordination & Communication:
  • Coordinate with production and project teams to plan and schedule inspections without causing delays.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the blasting and painting crews to prevent quality issues.
  • Report daily and weekly on quality status, issues, and progress to the QC Manager.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):
  • Champion a culture of safety onsite. Enforce all company and site-specific HSE policies.
  • Ensure all coating activities are carried out in a safe manner, with proper permits (e.g., hot work, confined space) and PPE.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Corrosion, Chemical, Civil) or a related field. Equivalent extensive experience will be considered.
  • Professional certification is mandatory: NACE Coating Inspector Level 2 or FROSIO Inspector Level III. (Level 2 is often the minimum requirement).
  • A minimum of [e.g., 5-7] years of experience as a QC Inspector/Engineer specifically in sandblasting and painting within the [e.g., oil & gas, marine, infrastructure] industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of surface preparation standards (ISO 8501, SSPC-SP), coating types (epoxy, polyurethane, zinc), and application methods (airless spray, conventional spray).
  • Proven experience with inspection equipment and interpreting technical data sheets and project specifications.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Desirable:
  • Additional NACE/FROSIO certifications.
  • CSWIP or BGAS certification.
  • Experience with protective coatings for concrete.
  • Knowledge of fireproofing and thermal insulation coatings.
  • Experience working on large-scale EPC projects.

Working Conditions
  • This is primarily a site-based role, requiring extensive time in the field.
  • Must be willing to work in various weather conditions and adapt to shift patterns (day/night) as required by project schedules.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and respiratory protection is mandatory.
