A Structural Steel QC Manager oversees all quality aspects (QA/QC) for steel construction projects, ensuring compliance with codes (like AISC, API) and project specs through planning inspections, managing teams, auditing processes, developing quality plans (ITPs), handling non-conformances, and coordinating with clients/consultants for fabrication, erection, and painting/coating, focusing on proactive risk mitigation for cost/time savings.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop & Implement Quality Plans:
Create and enforce Quality Control Plans (QCPs) and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) for steel fabrication and erection.
Inspection & Testing:
Oversee site inspections, welding inspections (MT, PT, UT, RT), and non-destructive testing (NDT).
Team Management:
Lead and coordinate QA/QC engineers, inspectors, and third-party labs/inspectors.
Documentation & Reporting:
Manage quality records, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and final handover documentation.
Code Compliance:
Ensure adherence to international codes (AISC, ASME, API) and project specifications.
Client Liaison:
Act as the main point of contact for quality issues with clients, consultants, and contractors.
Risk Management:
Identify quality risks and implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
Budgeting:
Manage budgets for QA/QC activities, labs, and tools.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Strong background in structural steel fabrication, erection, and welding.
Knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and NDT methods.
Experience in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, or large infrastructure sectors is often required.
Leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Certifications (e.g., AWS CWI, Lead Auditor) are highly beneficial.
