Job Summary

The QA/QC Engineer - Steel Fabrication Workshop is responsible for implementing and maintaining quality assurance and quality control systems to ensure that all fabrication activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, applicable codes, and client requirements. The role covers inspection, testing, documentation, and coordination with production teams to achieve quality objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Planning & Control

Implement the approved Quality Management System (QMS) in the fabrication workshop. Prepare and maintain Inspection & Test Plans (ITP), Quality Control Procedures, and Method Statements. Ensure compliance with project specifications, approved drawings, and applicable standards.

Incoming Material Inspection

Inspect incoming raw materials (plates, pipes, sections, bolts, consumables). Verify Mill Test Certificates (MTCs) and ensure material traceability. Maintain material identification and traceability throughout fabrication.

Fabrication & Welding Inspection

Inspect cutting, fit-up, welding, and assembly activities as per approved WPS, drawings, and standards. Monitor welding parameters and welder qualifications. Coordinate and witness NDT activities (VT, MT, PT, UT, RT) as required.

Surface Treatment & Finishing

Inspect surface preparation, painting, and galvanizing works. Ensure compliance with approved paint systems, DFT requirements, and galvanizing standards. Coordinate third-party inspections for painting and galvanizing when required.

Non-Conformance & Corrective Action

Identify non-conformances and issue NCRs. Coordinate corrective and preventive actions with production and engineering teams. Verify closure of NCRs and corrective actions.

Documentation & Reporting

Prepare and maintain quality records, inspection reports, and test reports. Compile Manufacturing Record Books (MRB) / Quality Dossiers for client submission. Support internal and external audits.

Client & Third-Party Coordination

Coordinate inspections with clients, consultants, and third-party inspectors. Attend quality meetings and respond to client quality-related queries.

HSE & Compliance

Ensure inspection activities are carried out in compliance with workshop safety procedures. Promote quality awareness among workshop personnel.
Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. 3-5 years of experience as a QA/QC Engineer in a steel fabrication workshop. Certification in CSWIP 3.1 is mandatory. Good knowledge of welding, fabrication, and inspection techniques.
Codes & Standards Knowledge

AWS, ASME, AISC, ASTM ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems BGAS (painting) Relevant project and client specifications
Skills & Competencies

Strong attention to detail and analytical skills Good knowledge of fabrication and welding processes Effective communication and reporting skills Ability to work independently in a workshop environment Familiarity with UAE / GCC fabrication practices
