Job Summary

The Pump Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining pumps and related equipment in sewerage pumping stations. The role ensures the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of wastewater collection and transfer systems, in compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

Operate and monitor pumps, valves, motors, and control systems for sewerage networks. Perform routine inspections of pumping stations to ensure proper functioning of equipment. Start, stop, and adjust pumps as required to maintain proper flow and pressure. Monitor gauges, meters, and control panels to detect operational abnormalities. Record operational data such as flow rates, pump performance, and maintenance logs. Conduct preventive maintenance, lubrication, and minor repairs on pumps and associated equipment. Report malfunctions, leaks, or breakdowns to supervisors and assist maintenance teams during repairs. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Support emergency response operations in case of equipment failure, flooding, or sewer blockages. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the pumping station facilities.

Qualifications & Requirements

High school diploma or technical certificate in mechanical/electrical/utility operations (preferred). Minimum [2-5] years of experience as a pump operator in sewerage, water, or utility infrastructure. Knowledge of pumping systems, valves, and basic mechanical/electrical troubleshooting. Ability to read gauges, meters, and technical manuals. Physical fitness to work in field and shift conditions. Awareness of occupational health and safety practices.
