Project Manager (urbanism + Planning)

Job Description

The Project Manager (PM) undertakes the full day to day Project Management function within the Urbanism + Planning team's projects. May lead a component of a major project from inception to completion. The PM manages the overall project, including staff resource, technical, financial (cost profitability, pricing & cash collection), bid negotiation, quality and client satisfaction areas using consistent processes and tools. Independently analyses and applies solutions to challenging problems within the scope of expertise by using critical thinking.
Business Processes
Policy knowledge, including health, safety, environment, company ethics, and business best practices. Should have a complete understanding of all contractual obligations, including AECOM DOA's and risk committee procedures. Must be capable of dealing with consenting and regulatory authority for approvals. Performs technical quality reviews, including documentation in project record by following policies and procedures.
General Management
Organisational skills to ensure processes are running smoothly and in line with standard design deliverables and client expectations. Able to prioritise tasks and document records for easy access and future reference. Able to create a design project timeline and maintain deadlines throughout the project lifecycle. Responsible for pre-identifying problem areas and implements mitigation plans. The ability to resolve conflicts, both internally and externally, to avoid/minimise project setbacks--the ability to delegate tasks where required and mentor junior team members effectively.
Team Management
Provides day to day management for project delivery staff working on assigned projects in coordination with the Senior Project Manager. Mentors and evaluates project delivery staff's performance. Ensures the overall project delivery goals for the team are implemented as per the Senior Project Managers direction.
Client/Stakeholder Management
Building relationships with clients and manages the expectations of the client and key stakeholders. Responsible for conveying and coordinating project information and deliverables with all stakeholders of the design projects. Accountable for assessing situations and escalating problems to Senior Management as and when required. Able to independently understand and represent technical issues to clients, communicating outcomes back to the technical teams. Ensures design submissions are as per authority requirements by closely coordinating with the stakeholder management team.
Commercial Management
Able to create and control a viable budget throughout the design stages. Able to accurately calculate the earned value, monitoring against project progress and implementing timely corrective actions as required. Responsible for monitoring other commercial aspects of the project such as Variation Orders, invoicing, cash collection, margin, ETCs (Estimate to Complete), and EACs (Estimate at Completion). Responsible for contractual documentation and identifying risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle. Leads change management initiatives and processes, ensuring minimum risk on the business.
Technical Excellence
Applies broad knowledge of at least one professional discipline or advanced understanding of a specific technical and operational practice. Capable of managing multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects. Assesses the required resource, cost and time required for an assigned project task and is accountable for obtaining joint commitment with the relevant design team. Understands the Approval/NOC process with the local authorities. Knows Authorities Standards, Specifications, and requirements and able to communicate with local authorities representatives and reviewers.
Interdisciplinary Coordination
Able to identify interdisciplinary design coordination gaps and provide effective solutions. Coordinates effectively with all team members, ensuring transparent and open communication at all times. Able to draw from technical experience to mentor technical design teams, ensuring high-quality output is delivered.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum 5 years' experience required, will have proven leadership within urban design, planning, landscape team and experience of handling pre-contract design projects, commercial management and project financials. This role will require collaboration with clients, design and engineering disciplines on high profile international urban development projects. The candidate will deliver distinctive and unique urban design / master planning / landscaping concepts in line with AECOM's vision.
Preferred Qualifications
Degree in relevant engineering e.g. Project Management, Design, Engineering or other relevant BSc Degree Plus PMP certification (or equivalent). Working towards a professional membership (ICE / ASCE etc. is strongly preferred). Relevant registration required in Qatar, Bahrain and UAE.
