Job Description

Job Summary
The Project Engineer will be a key technical and operational lead on our landscape construction projects. You will be responsible for applying rigorous engineering principles to ensure projects are built according to design specifications, on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety. This role requires a blend of civil engineering expertise and hands-on landscaping industry knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Planning & Design Review:

  • Analyze architectural and civil drawings, grading plans, irrigation designs, and structural details for landscaping projects.
  • Identify and resolve design conflicts and constructability issues before and during construction.
  • Prepare detailed technical submittals, including material samples, shop drawings, and method statements for client/consultant approval.
  • Develop and review project specifications, Bill of Quantities (BOQ), and material schedules.
2. Project Execution & Site Management:
  • Provide technical oversight and direction to site supervisors and foremen.
  • Manage the layout and surveying of sites, ensuring precise implementation of grading, drainage, and alignment plans.
  • Supervise and inspect all technical aspects of hardscaping (paving, retaining walls, structures), softscaping (planting, turf), irrigation, and water features.
  • Ensure all work complies with approved drawings, specifications, and relevant local codes and standards.
3. Planning & Scheduling:
  • Assist the Project Manager in developing detailed project schedules using tools like MS Project or Primavera P6.
  • Monitor project progress, track critical path activities, and identify potential delays. Propose and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate with the planning team for resource allocation (manpower, machinery, materials).
4. Quality Control & Assurance:
  • Establish and enforce rigorous quality control protocols for all materials and workmanship.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and tests (e.g., soil compaction, material strength) to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Maintain detailed quality records and reports.
5. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):
  • Champion a culture of safety on site. Ensure all activities comply with company and statutory HSE regulations.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and safety inductions for site staff and laborers.
  • Identify potential hazards and implement corrective measures promptly.
6. Client & Consultant Liaison:
  • Serve as a key technical point of contact for clients, consultants, and architects.
  • Attend project meetings, present progress updates, and address technical queries.
  • Prepare and submit daily/weekly progress reports.
7. Documentation & Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including drawings, RFIs (Requests for Information), site instructions, and variation orders.
  • Assist in the preparation of interim and final project reports.
  • Support the Project Manager in claims management and project close-out activities.
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Education: B.E. / B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from a reputed institute.
  • Experience: 8 to 10 years of direct experience in the landscaping or hardscaping construction industry.
  • Technical Proficiency:
  • Expert knowledge of landscape construction techniques, materials, and horticultural practices.
  • Strong understanding of surveying, grading, earthworks, and drainage principles.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Project, and MS Office Suite. Knowledge of Civil 3D or other design software is a strong advantage.
  • Management Skills: Proven ability to read and interpret complex drawings, manage site teams, and control project scope, time, and cost.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to overcoming project challenges.
  • Communication: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, consultants, and team members.
  • Certifications (Preferred): PMP, CSP, or any other relevant project management or safety certification.
