Employees can request religious and/or medical exemptions to this requirement by following the process outlined in the offer letter.This position is eligible for remote employment, it will exclude the following locations: Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Hawaii, Mississippi, South Dakota, West Virginia, and Wyoming.The Program Manager is responsible for the overall health and performance of their respective discipline portfolio including strategic, long-term planning; list management; market and competitive analysis; acquisition of new titles and projects (or potential vendor relationships); budgeting; profitability; publication goals; and a focus on addressing customer needs in both our digital and print programs, ensuring that market needs and requirements are represented to our digital product group as we build digital products for the discipline. The Program Manager demonstrates experience cultivating relationships, an understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with publishing on schedule and on budget, and is able to work effectively with others, including Production, Digital Product and Technology/Engineering to implement and advocate for strategies to transition the list from print to digital with an emphasis on enhancing learning. In addition to acquisition and signing, the Program Manager is responsible for managing authors; making revision and development decisions on products; coordinating all phases in an assigned product's life cycle; monitoring the financials; supporting products through collaboration with other divisions, including the salesforce and marketing, and traveling in support of individual projects. The Program Manager also plays a key role in sales training and presentation of products. The Program Manager may or may not have people management responsibility.This position will be filled at the level of Program Manager, Sr Program Manager, or Executive Program Manager depending on experience. Key Responsibilities:Market Expertise Develop a keen sense of the discipline marketplace, as well as key thought leadership opportunities (such as academic conferences) and use that market knowledge to inform plans for the growth of the program, as well as create points of differentiation for Macmillan Learning v. the competition in the discipline.Through attendance at national conferences, interact with the discipline community, monitor industry trends, and identify and understand customer challenges to inform product development, and seek new and diverse contributors to our editorial program. Sales Impact Collaborate with marketing, sales, learning solutions specialists, as appropriate, to ensure successful sales of all discipline products and titles.Seed new adoptions through events and outreach, working with reps and marketing managers to sell products and refine marketing messages. Monitor opportunity pipeline and sampling to ensure that revenue goals will be met.Travel to support sales efforts, as needed. Budgeting Manage and serve as the strategic decision maker for their program to accurately evaluate, identify and address existing and potential budgetary issues, obstacles, and opportunities to optimize the health of the portfolio.Work closely with the financial team and other partners to analyze and synthesize information to understand issues, risks, identify options, and support sound decision making. Profitability Manage and serve as the key decision-maker for the discipline P&Ls for digital products, franchises and titles, and new product models working closely with development, production, and others to control costs and ensure profitability.Use data, analysis of markets and trends, and insights from sales, marketing, and finance to determine appropriate sales forecasts and pricing strategies. Required Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of experience in higher educational publishing/learning company including experience in higher education sales.Experience with educational technology and ability to work cross-functionally with media and product teams.Experience applying excellent written & verbal communication skills and strong presentation skills with a variety of audiences.Excellent editorial judgment and skill.Outstanding project management skills, with ability to juggle multiple ongoing projects, to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to delegate and benchmark effectively.Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to form productive, collaborative working relationships with authors, author teams, and in-house teams including marketing, content and assessment development, media editorial and production.Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently.Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Apps. Desirable Experience: Teaching experience. Senior Program Manager Required Experience: 8+ years' experience in higher educational publishing/learning company including experience in higher education sales.Experience with educational technology and ability to work cross-functionally with media and product teams.Experience demonstrating excellent written & verbal communication skills and strong presentation skills with a variety of audiences.Excellent editorial judgment and skill.Outstanding project management skills, with ability to juggle multiple ongoing projects, to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to delegate and benchmark effectively.Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to form productive, collaborative working relationships with authors, author teams, and in-house teams including marketing, content and assessment development, media editorial and production.Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently.Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Apps.
