Printmaking Instructor School of Architecture and Design American International University - Kuwait City for the 2023-2024 Academic year
American International University (AIU) is looking for a dynamic and engaged full-time Printmaking Instructor for its School of Architecture and Design. We seek individuals who are passionate about teaching and mentoring students, building successful learning environments with students, who collaboratively engage with faculty and mentor students, and who are ambitious about developing new and impactful research within the Kuwait region.
AIU invites applicants for a full-time Printmaking Instructor appointment in the Graphic Design program. The ideal candidate is an innovative professional who leverages professional trends and technologies to deliver relevant classroom experiences. The successful candidate will be an active member of the design field. The individual will also be able to utilize and teach both studio coursework as well as technical or supplemental courses and demonstrate experience with standard industry tools including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. Also, the candidate will possess the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures. The position carries the expectation for research and school and University service in addition to teaching responsibilities.
Candidates should demonstrate excellence in teaching related to their specific expertise within the professional Interior Design curriculum, and be able to work within a small program, specializing in personal attention. Also, we expect leadership in undergraduate programs, curriculum development, mentoring, and startups. Qualifications:

• Expert in Fine Arts, Visual Art, Applied Art, Graphic Design, Textile Design, Art and Design, Illustration and Drawing, or equivalent or related field
• Practical communication skills in English
• University teaching experience
• Commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship
• Interest and experience working effectively with a diverse university community.
• Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with member of the faculty from a variety of disciplines.

Experience:

• Arts and Design: 2 years (Required)
• Teaching: 1 year (Preferred)

Language:

• English (Required)

Education and Skills Required: To qualify for this role, you must possess the following:

• BA/BSc in Fine Art, Visual Art, Applied Art, Graphic Design, Textile Design, Art and Design, Illustration and Drawing, or equivalent or related field.
• Press and Etching Machine experience.
• Printmaking techniques Experience, such as intaglio (methods of etching and engraving), lithography, and collagraph.
• Silkscreen printing Experience.
• Ability to read part drawings.
• Knowledge of computers required (Microsoft Office, Windows, Email, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign)
• Ability to wear safety apparel and safety gear for extended periods of time, including protective gloves, and a dust mask, respirator, or goggles.
• Team player, open to new ideas and teamwork, self-motivated individual, willing to continually strive to increase personal knowledge and value.
• Flexible, reliable, with the ability to work with no supervision.
• Good communication skills.
• Fluency in the English Language.

Job Responsibilities:

• The Printmaking Instructor at the American International University-Kuwait will load, operate, maintain, and supervise Printmaking labs that include the Press and Etching Machine, Silkscreen machine and Lighting Tables
• The Printmaking Instructor will help students to design the prints themself and create the artistic prints by using a variety of printing techniques such as intaglio (methods of etching and engraving), lithography, collagraph, and screen printing, on wood, metal, stone, or other materials. After which, he will transpose them onto another surface, generally using a printing press.
• Surfaces can include glass, cloth, and paper. Must have skills in electronic and digital printing processes alongside more artistic craft-based methods.

Job Requirements:
The Candidate should have the following qualifications:

• Extensive knowledge, skills, and experience in graphic printmaking techniques, such as intaglio (methods of etching and engraving), lithography, collagraph, and screen printing.
• Extensive knowledge, skills, and experience in print on a variety of surfaces, e.g., plastics, metal, glass, textiles, wood, and paper
• Must have a comprehensive understanding of Press and Etching machines, Lighting Tables, Silkscreen operation, and safety features.
• Loading/unloading parts from Etching machine, silkscreen machine, plotter, measuring and inspecting, making dimensional adjustments.
• Evaluate students\' designs to ensure they are compatible with the printers\xe2\x80\x99 settings.
• Capable of creating weekly and daily schedules for printing.
• Able to calibrate and maintain lab equipment.
