The Principal Structural Drafter directly impacts the effectiveness of their team and related teams. They exchange ideas and information relating to Structural Drafting effectively. The Principal Structural Drafter may work autonomously within established Structural Drafting procedures and practices. They act as a lead, coordinating the work of others. The Principal Structural Drafter proposes improvements to processes and methods within the Structural Drafting discipline.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Lead and supervise a team of structural drafters in designing and drafting structural drawings for projects within the Fabrication and Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation (EPCI) industry Develop and execute structural drafting plans, ensuring compliance with applicable industry codes, project specifications, and quality standards Assist drafting supervisor in preparing work schedules and estimating workhour requirements, including daily preparation of work schedule for team Collaborate with engineers and other disciplines to understand project requirements and deliver accurate and timely structural design documentation Review and interpret project specifications, design calculations, and concepts to produce detailed structural drawings for fabrication and construction Prepare and/or review discipline deliverables to ensure the accuracy and completeness of structural drawings, including plans, sections, elevations, and details, while considering technical feasibility, constructability, and safety aspects Apply knowledge of relevant fabrication principles, materials, and construction techniques to optimize structural design solutions Utilize industry-standard computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD, TEKLA, Navisworks, and Revit, to create and modify accurate 3D models, assemblies, shop drawings, and bills of materials for fabrication and installation Perform quality checks on structural drawings, ensuring adherence to standards, guidelines, and project requirements throughout the drafting process Resolve technical issues and provide engineering support during construction by addressing queries, generating field sketches, and suggesting design modifications as necessary Stay updated with the latest industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to structural drafting, incorporating innovative practices into our drafting workflows Implement design change in the shop drawing based on approved SQ, TQ, SI, and ARN Identify non-original scope using Change Management System Mentor and guide junior drafters, promote their professional development, and enhance the overall team's capabilities

Essential Qualifications and Education:

Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering or a related field Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in structural drafting, demonstrating a strong track record of producing high-quality drafting deliverables preferably within the EPCI industry Expertise in 3D (Tekla) & 2D (Autocad/Microstation) structural drafting, modeling, and drawing extraction Extensive knowledge of industry codes and standards for structural design, such as API, AISC, ACI, and ASCE Demonstrated leadership abilities with the capacity to supervise and mentor a team of draftsmen effectively Excellent understanding of structural engineering principles, materials, and construction techniques Solid problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve design-related challenges Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and precision in drafting deliverables Good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and present technical information effectively Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
