Job Description

Wood is curently recruiting for a Principal/Senior Vibration Engineer (Machinery) role within the Wood VDN (Vibration, Dynamics, and Noise) Specialist Engineering Group based in the Abu Dhabi office reporting to VDN Head of Department (HOD). The primary role is to provide rotating machinery vibration consultancy services to oil and gas operators in the Middle East. These include:

Office based elements:

+ Act as focal point and team lead for day-to-day rotating equipment related activities for the Abu Dhabi VDN team.

+ Leading compressor and pumping system troubleshooting activities to resolve reliability risks such as pulsations, torsional or lateral vibration, mechanical resonance, transients, fatigue, and surge.

+ Leading projects from across-region via supporting Condition Monitoring and Vibration Analysis executions.

+ Complete reportage required for projects without supervision and with minimum oversight from VDN HOD.

+ Detailed review of engineering documents submitted by clients/vendors including design and fabrication drawings and ITT/RFQ documents.

+ Manage all technical and commercial aspects of projects from initial proposal, through technical delivery, presentation to client and final invoicing.

+ Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to speak directly to the issue and to adapt to work environment and customers' communication style.

+ Assist in BD activities within the VDN and parent ALO (Asset Life Optimisation) teams.

+ Assist the Static Equipment Team lead and develop competence in static equipment.

+ Support the VDN Head of Department to allow cover on short term basis as required (to the limits of individual competency).

Field based elements:

+ Leading field measurement campaigns in support of vibration troubleshooting of machinery concerns.

+ Deliver and analyse machinery condition by applying technologies including Vibration Monitoring, Reciprocating Compressors PV data, Infrared Thermography, Oil Sampling and Tribology etc.

+ Execute all field Vibration and Condition Monitoring related surveys and prepare respective reports with actionable recommendations.

+ Perform Vibration Risk Assessments on process plants with pipework vibration data acquisition, walk-down surveys.

+ Liaising with client personnel on site and at all other stages of projects and ability to establish strong working relationships with customers. Strong customer focus, project management and the desire to go the extra mile.

Essential:

+ Competent in the application of the ISO 18436-2 and API studies pertaining to machinery design and inspections for greenfield plant and brownfield modifications.

+ Competent in the application of the primary machinery vibration analysis and condition monitoring software packages used by Wood VDN. Specific experience in the use of such packages (e.g., Bently Nevada System1 - classic and evo).

+ Perform critical machinery vibration signature analysis to predict early fault failure for improving reliability & availability

+ Hands-on proficiency of Operating deflection shape (ODS) measurement, Performance analysis - Reciprocating compressor, Field Vibration Measurement, Troubleshooting and Data Analysis - Instrumentation knowledge, Condition Monitoring Strategy Development/Review, Anti-Vibration Product Application.

+ Fully conversant with vibration measurement equipment including transducers, analysers, and all accessories. Be able to demonstrate correct use of equipment to junior colleagues.

+ Skilled proficiency of Routine and non-Routine online and offline Vibration Data Collection and Analysis, Multi-channel vibration data acquisition, Condition Monitoring Program Setup.

Desirable

+ Working knowledge of the 'Energy Institute Guidelines for the Avoidance of Vibration Induced fatigue Failure in Process pipework.

+ Competent in performing vibration, dynamic stress (bonded and friction gauges), dynamic pressure and noise measurements on process piping.

+ Working knowledge of flexibility and stress analysis of piping systems i.e., ASME B31.1 and B31.3.

+ Understanding structural analysis and relevant vibration standards.

+ Understanding of process-related, operational, and other common vibration excitation sources and able to collect all information relating to these in support of project goals i.e., for flow induced vibration, dead-leg pulsation, etc

Internapersonal Skllls:

+ Act as a mentor for junior engineers in all aspects of the above, in line with Wood policies. This involves formal training and informal assistance and guidance on a daily basis (in the office and on site).

+ Under the direction of the VDN Head of Department demonstrate ability to perform project resource planning and tracking of staff movements and usage daily in response to changing priorities of clients.

+ Comfortable to complete site-based work (12 hr shifts, up to 21 days continuous) on- and offshore globally

+ Comfortable presenting project results and group competencies to existing and potential clients.

+ Bachelor of Engineering degree is mandatory education from a recognised Academic institution (Master's degree is desirable).

+ Minimum ISO 18436-2 Category-II certified Vibration Analyst (Category-III is desirable).

+ Reciprocating Machinery Performance Analysis (such as, Windrock, Ariel, Waukesha, etc.)

+ Professional registration (i.e., CEng, CPEng, PEng is desirable).

Business and Industries experience:

+ Significant experience (>8 years) working in the on- and offshore petrochemical industry.

+ Demonstrable experience of rotating machinery troubleshooting and engineering project management.
