Bacterial antimicrobial resistance is reported to surpass cancer as the main cause of death by 2050. This prompts a return to the pre-antibiotic era where even minor infections can be fatal. In this project, we will use modern molecular tools like DNA deep sequencing to address the issue of antimicrobial resistance. Fundamental understanding of the molecular aspects underpinning antimicrobial resistance will help identify new technologies that can be used to mitigate the spread of antimicrobial resistance in bacteria. Your Job: The successful candidate will be part of a unique study that will mitigate the emergence of antimicrobial resistance in foodborne pathogens with Salmonella Typhimurium. as a model organism. The successful candidate will also use deep sequencing technologies like RNA-sequencing and conventional molecular microbiology to characterize bacterial antimicrobial resistance in great detail. Your experience: Prior laboratory experience in conventional microbiology is mandatory. Experience in assessing bacterial antimicrobial resistance as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications is a definite plus. The candidate should also demonstrate their ability to be a team player. Minimum Qualification The applicant must have earned a PhD Degree in Food Science/Nutrition or related discipline. Preferred Qualification PhD Degree in Food Science with a thesis on the relevant topic to the project (preferable).
