Job Purpose
  • To provide high quality research support and undertake internationally competitive research aimed at publication thereby contributing to the academic and research mission of the University.
  • Since the Postdoctoral, experience is transitional to becoming an independent researcher or faculty member, the Postdoctoral tries their best to acquire the varied skills necessary to advance their career with guidance from the advisor. These skills include, but are not limited to, the ability to present research plans and findings in a convincing style, both in oral and written modes of communication, the ability to understand research group management and supervision of others, the ability to establish contacts and network with colleagues pursuing a similar research agenda, the ability to organize and teach a class or a course if more inclined towards a teaching career.
Strategic Responsibilities
  • To manage, operate and further develop the equipment and instrumentation of the ENTC research laboratories.
  • To plan and implement equipment maintenance, calibration and testing of instruments and systems.
  • To participate to the safe utilization of the ENTC laboratories, including radiation protection.
  • To establish thorough experimentation robust protocols for accurate sample measurements including radioactivity estimations.
  • To take decisive role in field work, sampling and analyses for various ENTC projects.
  • To undertake or contribute to research activities using the appropriate methods and/or techniques.
  • To produce or contribute to research reports as required by the funding body and for dissemination to the wider academic community.
  • To collaborate with ENTC personnel as appropriate on research Theme \xe2\x80\x98radiation safety and environment\xe2\x80\x99 and on other Themes were applicable.
  • Develop appropriate external contacts and networks relevant to the project and to future funding opportunities.
  • To attend, contribute and where necessary lead relevant meetings.
  • To undertake any other assigned duties relevant to the ENTC research group activities.
Operational Responsibilities

In this position the successful candidate will oversee the management and development of the equipment and instrumentation of ENTC laboratories with a particular focus on the laboratory research infrastructure for radiochemistry and radioecology experiments within the ENTC\xe2\x80\x99s research theme \xe2\x80\x98radiation safety and environment\xe2\x80\x99. The candidate will support an effective and safe operation of the ENTC experimental laboratories in coordination with the University\xe2\x80\x99s Environment Health and Safety (EHS) Department and Research Laboratories. The candidate will test, commission, qualify and maintain various systems, equipment and instruments. The candidate will conduct routine experiments and measurements for the ENTC projects and activities. Rigorous scientific details and adherence to international standards (such as ISO) are important. For each analytical technique, associated sampling and sample processing protocol will need to be established. Liaison with manufacturers and contractors, as well as frequent collaboration with different Stakeholders within UAE (FANR, ENEC) are anticipated.

Required Qualifications
  • A PhD degree in Nuclear Engineering/Physics/Instrumentation/Radiochemistry, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in the utilization of equipment and instrumentation related to nuclear applications.
  • Knowledge and experience in nuclear safety and radiation protection is an asset.
  • Advanced expertise in software and codes for the handling of radiation detectors and electronics, efficiency calibrations, measurement uncertainty and sensitivity analyses is an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of radiochemical sample processing and experience with (one or more): mass spectrometry, gamma spectrometry, gross alpha/beta counting, liquid scintillation, is an asset.
