Position Overview

KU is seeking a highly motivated Post-doctoral Fellow to develop computational methods that can guide discovery of new materials and can perform first-principles calculations and reaction Kinetics of nitrogen Reduction Reaction (NRR). The project will develop the use of crystal structure prediction to guide computer-led discovery of new inorganic oxynitrides for nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR). The candidate will develop software tools and be involved in collaborations with lab-based materials discovery, where the computational results are used to guide experimentalist to synthesis of oxynitrides. The candidate must have the ability to manage their workload and research data and to publish scientific results promptly.

Qualifications

Position Requirements
  • Applicants should hold a PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related discipline. We are looking for candidates with an enthusiasm for research, multidisciplinary collaboration and tackling challenging problems through teamwork. You should have experience with crystal structure prediction methods. Experience with computational Physics/Chemistry and programming would be an advantage, as well as excellent communication skills.
  • Extensive expertise in catalytic reaction mechanism with and thorough knowledge of ab-initio methods.
  • The candidate should have high proficiency with LINUX and Python with an ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and able to work independently and willing to collaborate with members of the team.
  • Adhere to the University\'s information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager
Candidate Profile

Essential Criteria
  • PhD from a reputable university in Physics/Material Science/Nanotechnology or related discipline.
  • A willingness to contribute to a collaborative and supportive team culture
  • Excellent English language communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • The proven ability to work on multiple tasks with competing demands and deadlines.
  • Ability to train and mentor students and support fellow researchers
  • Highly developed reasoning and problem-solving skills
Desired Criteria
  • PhD gained from a top 200 QS or THE ranked University
  • At least 1-2 years of relevant experience as a post-doctoral researcher in academia or in industry.
  • High impact first-author publications in top 10% journals in the relevant field
