A plumbing engineer is a specialized type of mechanical engineer who focuses on designing and managing plumbing systems in buildings and infrastructure. Their work ensures the safe, efficient, and sustainable transport of water, waste, and gas.
Main Responsibilities
Design plumbing systems for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings -- including:
Cold and hot water supply
Sanitary drainage and venting
Stormwater and roof drainage
Gas distribution
Fire protection systems
Calculate system loads and pipe sizes to ensure adequate flow rates and pressure.
Select materials and fixtures (pipes, valves, pumps, water heaters, etc.) based on building codes, efficiency, and sustainability.
Coordinate with other disciplines -- such as architects, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers -- to integrate systems effectively.
Prepare construction documents, including:
Drawings (plans, riser diagrams)
Specifications
Schedules and cost estimates
Inspect installations to ensure they meet design intent and safety standard
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
3-5 years of hands-on work designing and reviewing plumbing and fire protection systems
Experience using AutoCAD, Revit, and hydraulic calculation software.
