Planning, installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical piping systems that transport various substances such as high-pressure steam, chemicals, water, and gases
Review and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine system layouts, material requirements, and the sequence of installation.
Measure, mark, cut, thread, and bend pipes to the required specifications using a variety of hand and power tools, such as saws, cutting torches, and pipe threaders/benders. They then join pipes and fittings using methods like welding, brazing, soldering, or mechanical joints.
Install and secure pipes to structures using brackets, clamps, hangers, and welding equipment. This also involves installing related components like valves, gauges, and control systems.
Conduct pressure and leak tests (e.g., hydrostatic testing) on installed systems to ensure functionality, safety, and compliance with all relevant codes and regulatory standards.
Perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and repair or replace worn or damaged components like pipes, supports, and valves to ensure efficient and safe operation of existing systems.
Adhere to all safety guidelines and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with potentially hazardous materials or in confined and high-risk environments (e.g., working at heights or with dangerous chemicals).
Work closely with other tradespeople (e.g., welders, engineers, plumbers) and maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and project progress.
