Job Description

Overview

Reporting to the Supervisor, Physiotherapy, the Physiotherapist I role is responsible for performing examinations, diagnoses, physical therapy and rehabilitation treatments for patients with medical conditions such as injuries and disabilities in line with MH and DOH/DHA policies, procedures, guidelines and standards.

Responsibilities

Managerial/Leadership
  • Acts as a positive role model within physiotherapy and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Acts as a preceptor and provides orientation and competency assessment for new and less experienced staff as required.
  • Liaises with line manager to ensure patient caseload is addressed with the appropriate staffing and skill mix.
  • Promotes an interdisciplinary team approach based on mutual respect and direct communication between healthcare professionals to ensure care is delivered effectively.
  • Participate in rehabilitation quality and productivity initiatives.
  • Imparts knowledge and skills within the interdisciplinary team
  • Positively & actively participates in organizational change.
  • Management of the team in the absence of the line manager or where appropriately delegated.
  • Actively participate in goal setting and performance in line with the strategic goals of the organization.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking in conflict management and problem-solving.
  • Participates in the maintenance of sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for performance of duties.
  • Participate in marketing and resident/patient access activities as directed and where their clinical competence will enhance these activities.
  • Participate in the recruitment of team members.
Clinical Practice
  • Provides clinical care for own caseload but also supports or provides access to additional support for the clinical care of other patients where additional or complex/specialist assessment and intervention is required, beyond the current competence/skills of other therapy team members.
  • Provide assessment of a proficient standard.
  • Proficient analysis skills enabling high quality and highly specialized individual treatment plans.
  • Respects the skills, expertise, and contributions of colleagues, advocating for the patient and referring on when appropriate. Liaises with other health care providers as necessary to ensure appropriate and timely interventions for the patient.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide individualized care from point of the first contact throughout the episode of care, incorporating the continuum of care and rehabilitation goals.
  • Provide up to date, evidence-based treatment interventions to a proficient level.
  • Identifies & manages deterioration with patient conditions, initiates appropriate action and escalates concerns appropriately.
  • Evaluating patient progress and progress/alter treatment programs accordingly.
  • Prioritizes patient care based on continuous assessment of their ongoing needs.
  • Prescribe and procure optimal, appropriate, resource efficient equipment/supplies.
  • Assess patient and family education needs, provide education in methods optimal to their learning and evaluate outcomes.
  • Document clinical activities as per organisational policy and at a proficient level.
  • Utilizes and promotes up to date evidence-based practice in the provision of patient & family-centered care.
  • Demonstrates accountability for own professional judgment, actions, outcomes of care and continued competence.
  • Recognizes the boundaries of their scope of practice and limits of own competence.
  • Demonstrates service excellence and advocacy to support the patient rights and dignity at all times.
  • Promotes quality of life and embraces the unique social and cultural role of the family.
  • Facilitates a climate of mutual understanding, and appreciation of cross-cultural differences inherent in a multicultural society.
  • Actively participates in meetings regarding patient care for own caseload and where additional support has been identified/ prioritized or requested by team members.
  • Provides comprehensive clinical handover and reports as required to ensure patient safety and continuity of high quality of care.
  • Traveling with/to patients, whenever required within the United Arab Emirates, for the clinical requirement.
  • Interpreting or provision of translator for patients, if bilingual and required.
  • Responds to all levels of emergencies according to the organization\'s policies and procedures.
Communication
  • Maintains confidentiality and security of patient, family, and organization information in accordance with the confidentiality policy
  • Facilitates effective communication between the patient, family and the interdisciplinary healthcare team, through the use of an assessment of needs and styles and optimizing methods and environment used to engage in communication.
  • Communicates effectively with all organizational teams regarding team, department and organizational activity.
  • Establishes and maintains professional boundaries with patients and members of the healthcare team
  • To communicate effectively with all other disciplines involved in the patients care both in Mubadala Health and in the community, by attending clinics, interdisciplinary and staff meetings where required, thus ensuring an interdisciplinary approach and integrated service.
Clinical Education
  • Provide peer review and facilitate others competence and specialist skill acquisition.
  • Show evidence of up to date evidence-based practice and practical expertise amongst the interdisciplinary team to enhance the quality of service and staff development.
  • Precepts students and junior staff.
  • Presents/ deliver training within team and facility and where appropriate, conferences nationally or internationally.
  • Shows evidence of research-oriented activity in the form of actual research, presentations, reviews
  • Engages in health promotion activities in the healthcare organization and community.
Performance Improvement/Risk Management
  • Sets annual objectives if not meeting competencies of position or if on the professional development plan.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities by assisting with the development, implementation, evaluation, and review of standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines, evaluation of indicators and reporting of outcomes and trends
  • Participates in initiatives to improve systems/processes and safe, effective and efficient resident/patient care.
  • Identifies and proactively participates in procurement, maintenance and the safe and competent use of discipline-specific equipment.
  • Demonstrates compliance with quality control, clinical practice and health, and safety guidelines.
  • Pro-actively recognizes risks, records them and provides risk management strategies to eliminate or control them.
Occupational Safety & Health (OSH)
  • Take reasonable care of their own safety and health, and of others that might be affected by their acts or omissions at work.
  • Comply with reasonable OSH instructions and safe working procedures, familiarize themselves, understand, co-operate and comply with their employer OSH policies, procedures with respect to any instructions and/or actions taken by the management to protect the employees and/or comply with OSH requirements which are relevant to their workplace.
  • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems and ensure they are maintained in good working condition.
  • Be familiar and participate in emergency management and evacuation drills
  • Not willfully or recklessly endanger anyone\xe2\x80\x99s health and safety
  • Assist with the preparation of risk assessments.
  • Report all OSH hazards, incidents and issues to their immediate supervisor.
  • Attends mandatory OSH trainings in accordance with the OSHMS requirements.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Develops and maintains own Professional Portfolio to meet all policy/standards and licensing requirements for the UAE and home country.
  • Obtains accredited and non-accredited Continuing Medical Education (CME) Units in compliance with national health authority requirement, the organization\xe2\x80\x99s requirements and home country licensing requirements.
General
  • Act as an advocate for the vulnerable, challenging poor practice and discriminatory attitudes and behavior relating to their care.
  • Contribute to the wider corporate and organizational development needs as appropriate within the scope of practice.
  • Takes responsibility to ensure complaints, concerns, and recommendations are escalated appropriately and documented.
  • Are responsible to take action to report incidents, including near misses; to ensure as an organization we learn.
  • Compliance with Occupational Safety & Health Management System which integrates with the Health and Safety regulations of the facility.
  • Adheres to and promotes recommended practice in relation to controlling and preventing infection, by taking all reasonable personal precautions necessary to avoid any potential health risks to colleagues, patients\xe2\x80\x99/patients\xe2\x80\x99, families and visitors.
  • Comply and facilitate adherence of all staff to organizational policies, processes, and procedures.
Qualifications

BSc in Physiotherapy or Physical Therapy.
Basic Life support (BLS).
