Responsibilities
1. Instruction and Curriculum Delivery+ Plan and deliver age-appropriate physical education lessons aligned with national and state standards (e.g., SHAPE America standards).
+ Teach fundamental motor skills, fitness concepts, team and individual sports, and lifelong physical activities.
+ Incorporate health, wellness, and personal fitness education into instruction when appropriate.
2. Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring+ Assess student performance in physical fitness, skill development, and participation using both formative and summative assessments.
+ Track student progress and provide feedback that supports growth in physical competence and personal responsibility.
+ Prepare student reports and contribute to report cards and parent communication.
3. Classroom and Behavior Management+ Establish clear expectations and routines to promote safety, respect, and positive behavior.
+ Supervise students during activities and ensure proper use of equipment and facilities.
+ Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and inclusion.
4. Health and Safety+ Ensure that all activities follow safety protocols and are appropriate for students' developmental levels.
+ Administer basic first aid if needed and respond to injuries following school procedures.
+ Monitor and address any health concerns in coordination with the school nurse or counselor.
5. Equipment and Facilities Management+ Maintain inventory and care of PE equipment and resources.
+ Organize the setup and takedown of materials for daily classes and special events.
+ Ensure that gymnasium and outdoor play areas are clean, safe, and ready for use.
6. Extracurricular Involvement+ Coach or assist with school sports teams, fitness clubs, or intramural programs.
+ Organize or support school-wide events such as field days, fitness challenges, or sports tournaments.
7. Communication and Collaboration+ Communicate regularly with parents, colleagues, and school leadership regarding student progress and events.
+ Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to support cross-curricular learning and student wellness initiatives.
8. Professional Development+ Participate in faculty meetings, workshops, and ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in physical education.
