Job statement of a Pastoral Manager;
To support the principal with practical assistance in promoting student well-being and positive behavior in order to improve learning to provide a consistent point of contact for students and parents in their grade.
Each grade (year group) is assigned a Pastoral Manager to support students to achieve their full potential some of whom may be exhibiting behavior, emotional or social problems in school.
The responsibility will be to lead both the team of personal tutors and cohort of students.
This involves giving a clear vision and direction to work, identifying key areas for improvement and planning appropriate actions to meet them
Essential Functions of a Pastoral Manager;
To monitor the academic progress of the assigned grade in order to secure and sustain effective learning.
To have an overview of the range of barriers to learning that impacting on student progress, with reference to behavior for learning, in and out of the classroom.
Leadership and Management.
To act as a role model for personal tutors by demonstrating high quality pastoral care and academic monitoring of students, continuous professional development and professional presence in the grade team.
To lead and manage a team of personal tutors and maintain regular formal and informal contact with tutors.
To set the agenda for personal tutor meetings which should include a development item.
To initiate and respond to communications with parents ensuring that they are kept fully informed and involved in the progress of their children.
To monitor behaviour, emotional and social issues within a specific grade(s) and make positive interventions when necessary.
To monitor attendance and truancy issues and devise and implement intervention strategies to improve these issues.
To identify issues that are affecting students\' performance at school and share this information with relevant staff in order to help the student progress.
To ensure that there is a strong supportive tutor programme is in place, delivered effectively that gives students a broad range of skills that ensures academic success.
To create and implement behaviour plans and monitor their success.
To organize and conduct year group assemblies and other year activities.
Requirements for a Pastoral Manager;
Qualified teacher status
A bachelors in either English, Maths, Science, Business, Computer Science.
Professional qualification in staff development.
A minimum of 3 years membership of a senior leadership team in a secondary school.
Teaching experience in a range of secondary schools.
Teaching experience within a PRU (Pupil Referral Unit) desirable.
Experience of working in a school which has been in an OfSTED category / required significant improvement
Experience of working in a multi-cultural setting Skills/competence
Excellent written and verbal skills in English.
