Position Overview: Operations Manager is responsible for the end-to-end management of complex water treatment projects, specifically those with budgets exceeding USD 10 million. This individual will leverage extensive engineering, financial management, and project management expertise to ensure project deliverables are met on time and within scope, cost, and quality parameters. The role requires a strong leadership presence, financial acumen, the ability to work collaboratively across departments, and a focus on operational excellence. The candidate must be proficient in using various digital tools for documentation, process tracking, and quality control. Key Skills: Oversee large-scale water treatment projects, ensuring each stage of the project lifecycle, from initiation to commissioning, is executed effectively. Develop comprehensive project plans that align with client specifications and company objectives. Apply Agile or similar methodologies to increase project responsiveness, allowing for iterative feedback and improvements. Ensure the project adheres to timelines and budget constraints while maintaining a high standard of quality. Financial and Budget Management: Lead financial planning for projects, ensuring accurate forecasting and budgeting aligned with the company's financial objectives. Monitor and control project expenditures, implementing cost-saving measures where applicable to maximize profit margins. Analyse financial data related to project costs, identify discrepancies, and develop corrective measures to address budget variances. Prepare and present detailed financial reports to senior management, providing insight into project profitability, cash flow, and financial performance. Collaborate with the finance department to manage project invoices, payments, and cost tracking. Ensure compliance with financial regulations, company policies, and contractual obligations to protect the financial interests of the company. Strategic Process Oversight: Lead the development and implementation of process management strategies to optimize workflow efficiency. Oversee and manage the entire engineering process, ensuring design accuracy and compliance with standards. Maintain a clear and organized approach to managing process documentation, allowing for seamless project tracking and reporting. Engineering and Technical Documentation: Ensure the preparation, review, and maintenance of all engineering documents, including detailed drawings, specifications, and revisions. Oversee the development of quality documentation that adheres to industry standards, ensuring seamless communication of quality expectations to the team. Develop comprehensive project control documentation, including Gantt charts, project timelines, resource allocation reports, and performance tracking. Procurement and Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with the procurement department to track the progress of materials and supplies through a detailed procurement tracker. Ensure timely procurement of equipment and materials, managing potential delays and mitigating risks by coordinating with suppliers and vendors. Address vendor-related issues promptly, ensuring the seamless flow of goods to meet project milestones. Act as the key liaison between various departments, including engineering, procurement, finance, and quality assurance, to streamline communication and foster collaboration. Facilitate regular cross-departmental meetings to discuss project progress, challenges, and action plans. Proactively manage any cross-functional issues, ensuring alignment and collaboration to meet project goals. Quality Assurance & Control: Develop and enforce rigorous quality control standards, overseeing compliance with company and client requirements. Supervise the creation and approval of WIRs and MIRs based on the project-specific ITP. Engage the quality team to maintain meticulous records of quality documentation and support on-site inspections and audits. Implement corrective measures in cases of non-compliance and provide coaching to enhance team adherence to quality protocols. Identify and assess potential project risks, implementing strategies to mitigate them effectively. Proactively manage unexpected challenges by developing contingency plans that protect project timelines and budgets. Maintain an open line of communication with key stakeholders to report risks and outline steps being taken to minimize their impact. Documentation and Digital Tool Proficiency: Utilize project management tools and software to maintain clear and updated process documentation. Manage digital tracking of project-related documentation such as RFIs, submittals, and change orders. Train team members on the proper use of project management and documentation tools to standardize processes and enhance productivity. Vendor and Stakeholder Engagement: Establish strategic partnerships with key vendors, fostering relationships that prioritize reliability and cost-effectiveness. Work closely with external stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and consultants, to ensure project requirements are understood and met. Negotiate contracts with vendors and subcontractors to secure favorable terms that align with project budgets and timelines. Essential Qualifications: Education & Certification: BacheloraEUR(TM)s degree in Mechanical Engineering (essential). Advanced certifications or training in project management methodologies, particularly Agile or Lean, Six Sigma Certifications are advantageous. Experience: A minimum of 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in operations management within the water treatment industry or related sectors. Demonstrated success in managing high-value projects exceeding USD 10 million. Proven experience in financial oversight and budget management for large-scale projects. Proficiency in project management and documentation software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, SAP). In-depth understanding of engineering processes, quality documentation, project control mechanisms, and procurement tracking. Experience in raising and managing Work Inspection Requests (WIR) and Material Inspection Requests (MIR) aligned with Inspection Test Plans (ITP). Soft Skills: Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to lead a diverse team effectively. Excellent communication skills for liaising with various stakeholders, presenting project updates, and negotiating with vendors. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make decisions under pressure and adapt to dynamic project needs. High attention to detail and organizational skills for managing complex project documentation and processes. Financial acumen and analytical skills to evaluate project profitability and make strategic recommendations. Computer & Digital Skills: Advanced computer proficiency, particularly with tools for tracking engineering, quality, and project documentation. Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and document management platforms. Competence in software applications for digital collaboration and vendor follow-up (e.g., Trello, Slack, procurement platforms).
