The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the day-to-day operational activities of the organization. This role ensures efficiency, effectiveness, and profitability by managing resources, streamlining processes, and maintaining high standards of quality and service delivery. The Operations Manager will lead and develop operational teams, implement strategic initiatives, and continuously improve performance to achieve organizational goals.
Responsibilities:
Operational Planning and Execution:
Develop and implement operational plans and strategies aligned with the overall business objectives.
Monitor and analyze operational performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions in various markets in Africa.
Ensure efficient allocation of resources (human, financial, material) to meet operational needs.
Oversee the execution of daily operations, ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards.
Develop and manage operational budgets, controlling costs and maximizing profitability.
Process Optimization and Improvement:
Identify and analyze existing operational processes for inefficiencies and bottlenecks. Develop and implement process improvements, leveraging best practices and innovative solutions.
Utilize data-driven insights to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Document and maintain operational procedures and workflows.
Implement and manage quality control measures to ensure high standards of output.
Team Leadership and Management:
Recruit, train, and manage operational staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
Set clear performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations.
Coach, mentor, and develop team members to enhance their skills and performance. Promote effective communication and collaboration within the operations team and across other departments.
Ensure compliance with all relevant labor laws and company policies.
Risk Management and Compliance:
Identify and assess operational risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, safety standards, and industry best practices.
Implement and maintain safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
Conduct regular audits and inspections to monitor compliance.
Stakeholder Management:
Collaborate effectively with other departments (e.g., Sales, Marketing, Finance, HR) to ensure seamless operations.
Communicate operational performance and challenges to senior management.
Build and maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
Technology Implementation and Utilization:
Evaluate and implement new technologies and systems to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Ensure the proper utilization and maintenance of existing operational technology.
Stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements in operations management.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree is an advantage.
6 years of progressive experience in operations management, with a proven track record of success.
Strong understanding of operational principles, methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma), and best practices.
Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions. Proficiency in using relevant software and technology for operations management (e.g., ERP systems, inventory management software).
Strong financial acumen and budgeting skills.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Experience in preferably Agricultural Inputs or similar fields.
