The Position:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Developer to join our dynamic Observability team. As an IT Observability Developer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Observability solutions to ensure the reliability, performance, and scalability of our IT systems. Your expertise in Observability tools and technologies will play a crucial role in enhancing the performance and availability of our business processes. This is a hands-on technical role that requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a passion for delivering robust solutions.

Responsibilities:

Develop and enhance Observability solutions used to observe, analyse, and troubleshoot IT and OT systems, including applications, infrastructure, and network components.

Develop and enhance Observability UX, usability and user experience that provide real-time insights into the health and performance of critical systems. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, application owners and operations teams, to design and implement comprehensive Observability improvement roadmaps. Identify and implement performance optimisations by analysing Observability data and diagnosing system bottlenecks, scalability issues, and other performance-related challenges. Enhancing alert relevance and actionability. Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in Observability technologies and proactively recommend improvements. Collaborate with development and deployment teams to integrate Observability practices into the software development lifecycle, including code instrumentation, log message standards, and best practices. Develop and maintain documentation, guidelines, and standard operating procedures related to Observability development, ensuring knowledge sharing.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Strong experience in designing and implementing Observability solutions for complex IT and OT systems, utilising tools such as Grafana, Telegraf, Prometheus, ELK stack or similar. Proficiency in several programming languages commonly used (e.g., Go, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Angular, . NET, .NET Core and Perl) for building custom Observability solutions and automating monitoring tasks. In-depth knowledge of system monitoring, logging, and tracing methodologies, along with experience in implementing distributed tracing and log aggregation systems. Familiarity with cloud-native technologies and platforms and their Observability offerings. Solid understanding of network protocols, infrastructure components (e.g., load balancers, databases, caching systems), and their monitoring requirements. Experience with containerisation technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and monitoring solutions specifically designed for containerised environments. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and system issues. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
