The School of Big Bravery is seeking a multi-talented Learning Guides to co-create & launch our first Early Years/Primary age program.
The School of Big Bravery has been provided a unique opportunity to question fundamental elements of the education system which dominates our world today. This project is being led by the Dubai Design Lab, which is part of the Dubai Future Foundation. The School of Big Bravery\xe2\x80\x99s mission is to grow an inclusive learning community which puts relationships, learner agency, and a strong connection to nature at the heart of it. We bravely question what elements of education need to change in order to do this, through re-evaluating timetables and schedules, subjects, or even where learning may take place. We take time to build understanding across our community, as we consider learning to be a holistic process involving the learner, their caretakers, their community, and the environment around them. We aspire to be a lighthouse illuminating the possibilities of a brighter future through learning, and for this we welcome a team of inspired and energetic changemakers.
This is a startup! So we are looking for someone who is collaborative, understands the importance of strong personal relationships and who thrives in a changing, innovative and agile environment. The ideal start-date is autumn 2023, latest January 2024.
Role overview: You will play a vital role as a learning guide. Your involvement will be instrumental in growing and executing our vision for primary years learning.
Our learning guides co-design play and challenge based learning experiences, facilitate nature and discovery-based workshops, provide one-on-one accompaniment, and collaborate with partners to craft a purpose-inspired, experiential and community-engaged learning experience for all our learners.
In your role, you will:
  • Being the primary point of contact for a given group of learners acting as a guide, coach, mentor, counsellor, passion pusher, facilitator, curator, and whatever else our learners need us to be for them.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional, agile team that develops engaging, effective learning experiences.
  • Collaboratively design and participate in training and coaching sessions for learning guides and partners who work with our learners.
  • Parent communication and engagement.
  • Support learning on a variety of topics in a variety of contexts; be a generalist.
  • Co-develop systems for progress monitoring, authentic assessment, and learning interventions.
  • Presentations and communication to prospective families.
  • Stay current with trends, leading neuroscience and innovations, and research in learning science, instructional media, and learner behaviour.
  • Co-create, review, and advise on all documents that pertain to the Learning Program.

You bring:
  • 3-5 years experience working with 6-12 year olds, most of which is in inquiry and play based learning.
  • C2 level of English is a must, Arabic would be nice to have
  • Experience in developing and implementing learning experiences from ideation through implementation.
  • Experience in supporting primary age learners. At the core of all of these is the capacity to build strong, positive relationships, and to identify what role you need to play for each learner.
  • Capacity to draw from a wide variety of learning methodologies and apply them appropriately based on the context and the learner, ideally project based and experiential learning.
  • Patient and empathetic with learners of all ages as well as their parents.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and creatively in a fast-paced, agile environment.
  • Willingness to learn from failure, ask for help when you need it, embracing an iterative process.
  • Skilled in problem solving, critical thinking, planning and organisation.
