The Necking Machine Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining necking machines to manufacture aluminum cans in compliance with GCI and customer specifications. The role involves performing in-process inspections, routine machine maintenance, tooling management, and ensuring a clean and organized work area. Operators must document shift activities, communicate effectively across shifts, and support continuous improvement efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate necking machines in accordance with production specifications and control plans.
Conduct routine in-process inspections using calibrated instruments to ensure quality.
Perform machine adjustments, minor maintenance, and lubrication as needed.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the necking and packing areas.
Prepare and clean tooling for the next production run; inspect for wear or defects.
Properly store and manage used tooling in the designated inspection area.
Carry out start-up and changeover duties as directed.
Complete detailed shift handover reports and maintain operator logbooks.
Identify and report equipment issues or recurring problems.
Collaborate with Quality team to conduct root cause analysis (RCA) on spoilage or customer complaints.
Communicate effectively with operators from other shifts to ensure smooth transitions.
Support the training and onboarding of new team members in the necking area.
Requirements:
Technical diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial fields (preferred)
1-3 years in a manufacturing environment, preferably with can-making or similar machinery
Experience in machine operation, maintenance, or production processes
Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance
Familiarity with using measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges)
Understanding of safety procedures and production quality standards
Good communication and documentation skills
Willingness to work in shifts
Physically fit to handle tooling and machine operation
